PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- A Painesville man went on a rampage early Thursday morning, killing his wife, injuring two others, and eventually killing himself.
Painesville 911 Calls
Man Accused Of Stabbing 3, Self
NewsChannel5's Joe Pagonakis reported that new information from police Friday reveals that 32-year-old Jimmy Rice was depressed about his failing marriage and had even contemplated suicide weeks earlier.
Painesville police said Rice used kitchen knives to kill his wife, 33-year-old Tina Rice, and to stab her sister and brother-in-law, Terra and Roger Coffee.
Terra Coffee was treated and released with arm wounds. Roger Coffee was in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center after being stabbed more than 20 times, and is now listed in stable condition.
Investigators are now saying that they have been given information that Tina Rice was allegedly having an affair, which may have caused Jimmy Rice to go on a rampage.
But police said that Tina Rice had not filed a restraining order against her husband, that police were not called to either home, and did not receive a domestic dispute call from the Rices prior to the stabbings.
However, police confirm that Jimmy Rice had been emotionally unstable in the weeks before the attack.
"We have been told he had been talking about suicide in the past month," said Richard Kline, of the Painesville police.
Investigators are waiting for the results of toxicology reports on Jimmy Rice's body, trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in this case.
