A schoolgirl was raped by a stranger in broad daylight as she walked home from classes in Wolverhampton.
The 14-year-old girl was attacked just 15 minutes after the end of the school day. Police said the rapist pounced as the girl walked down a pathway near Deansfield High School, Eastfield.
It happened at around 3.30pm yesterday.
Detectives are hunting the attacker – who is described as an Asian or Eastern European in his 20s with brown eyes and short brown or black hair, which was gelled back.
He had greasy skin, was clean shaven and had crooked top teeth.
He was wearing a black silky jacket, light blue jeans and a white t-shirt with black boots.
Police were due to return to the pathway, which runs from Deans Road to Neachells Lane, this afternoon to talk to school children and people who may have been in the area yesterday.
Deansfield High School finishes at 3.15pm and it is thought the girl may have been late when she was attacked.
The pathway, which runs parallel to the busy Willenhall Road, would have been busy with students walking home from school just minutes earlier.
Officers are trying to establish if the attacker had been hanging round the area prior to the rape and whether he had followed his victim from the main road.
Wednesfield Superintendent Mike Treble said: “This is an horrendous attack on a young girl and the victim is extremely traumatised.
“However we would remind people that these types of attacks are thankfully rare.
“This appears to be an isolated incident but we emphasise to the public to be more safety conscious when walking alone and in secluded areas.
“We believe that there were people in the vicinity of the Merry Boys public house and on the pathway who may have witnessed the incident and we urge these people to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Wednesfield police station on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
