Thanks for the "heads up". How our ancestors are related to Atlantis, or not, can only begin to be asked once the mystery of whether Atlantis exists is answered. If it does exist, it will be found eventually.

Robert Sarmast said sonar scanning of the seabed between east Cyprus and Syria revealed man-made walls, one as long as 3 kilometers (2 miles), and trenches at a depth of 1,500 meters (1,640 yards).

"It is a miracle we found these walls as their location, and lengths match exactly the description of the acropolis of Atlantis provided by Plato in his writings," Sarmast said, referring to the ancient Greek philosopher.

"We have definitely found the Acropolis of Atlantis," he affirmed, adding the site was 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Cyprus.

Plato definitively located Atlantis WEST of the pillars of Heracles. That makes this particular find an unlikely candidate.

Moreover, the Atlantis myth is not solely a Greek phenomenon, Julius Evola pointed aspects of the same notion in old Irish legends. He also linked it to the notion of Thule/Hyperborea, which is a nearly universal Aryan idea: the northern ancestral homeland. Not just a west European notion, but one shared by the Persians and the ancient Arya of India. See, "Revolt Against the Modern World"

I will remain a skeptic so long as the only evidence presented is a sonar image of a "wall." Remember the Bimini wall? How about those walls undersea south of Japan? Both were shown to be natural phenomena. When they get a camera down there and obtain unarguable pictures of temples, statues and other definite proof of human activity, I will consider it a possibility that they've found Atlantis.

Edgar Cayce on Atlantis
In all, Cayce referred to Atlantis no fewer than seven hundred times in his readings over a span of twenty years.

He maintained that Atlantis had a civilization which was technologically superior to our own, and that its last surviving islands had disappeared in the area of the Caribbean some ten thousand years ago. His most specifically timed forecast was that Atlantis would rise again in 1968 or 1969. Needless to say, Cayce was wrong on that count. [Note: However, it was in that timeframe that the "Bimini Road" was located in the Atlantic Ocean. Whether this is a "road" or "natural, geologic erosion" is being hotly debated.]

First published in 1988, this second release of Mysteries of Atlantis Revisited includes an update of discoveries made during the past ten years. Subtle clues and indications seem to be leaning in favor of the Cayce account, but these three writers make no claims. Apparently they are still waiting until all the facts are in.

THE remains of the lost city of Atlantis, which a United States researcher claims to have found off the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, are in fact submarine volcanoes, according to a German physicist.

US researcher Robert Sarmast claimed on Monday to have found proof that the mythical lost city of Atlantis actually existed and is located under the Mediterranean seabed between Cyprus and Syria.

But German physicist Christian Huebscher said he had identified the phenomenon as 100,000 year-old volcanoes that spewed mud.

Mr Huebscher, of the Hamburg Centre for Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, is quoted in tomorrow's edition of the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as saying he and two Dutch colleagues had sailed in a boat to the same area at which Mr Sarmast claimed to have located Atlantis and made their findings.

Mr Sarmast's team claims to have found man-made structures located about 1.5 kilometres below sea level and 80 kilometres off the south-east coast of Cyprus.

In his book Discovery of Atlantis, Mr Sarmast argued Cyprus was once part of that lost continent - at its highest peak - and said his findings matched almost perfectly every clue in the philosopher Plato's description of the legendary city state.

Plato's famed account in Timaeus and Critias is the sole source of the Atlantis myth dating back to 9000 BC.

The privately-funded $US200,000 ($258,830) expedition seeks to confound sceptics by bringing back scientific side-scan sonar data which supports evidence revealing man-made structures such as a three-kilometre wall.

Plato said an epochal flood "swallowed up" the mountainous island of Atlantis.

Other theories place the lost civilisation in the South China Sea, the Azores, the Aegean or the Atlantic Ocean. Greek mythology has it Atlantis was destroyed as punishment by Zeus for the greed and corruption that befell the city.
