Dogs have been keeping humans as pets for millenia.

They've trained us to wash them, feed them, walk them on command, provide them with housing and medical, clean up after them, scratch them behind the ears whenever they feel like it, throw the ball or whatever object they want us to throw.
Sometimes their consciences trouble them though.

I used to own a wolf, and the only difference I've noticed is the oustanding loyalty and bond you can have with a wolf, the closest thing I've found to that is a German Shepard, but a wolf is the best damn dog you could ever own.
