Yes, it works very well.
Video files are usually downloaded in flv format.
If you then use the AVS video converter
http://www.avs4you.com/
you can then change them into any format you like.
Also with Firefox, you may sometimes want to copy an image, but the website designers have oppressed you, and denied you your human right to download the image.
Right click on the page, and a menu appears.
Look at the bottom of the menu, and you'll see "View page info"
Click on it, and then click on the "media" tab.
A list of the elements on the page appears, and often you can then download the image from there.

Yes, also: Screen capture then copy into an image viewer like IrfanView, which will allow you to crop down to the part you want to keep.

From any site, but not streaming.
Opera was the best until a year or two back, when Firefox addons improved more than Opera's and thus moved Firefox past it.

Well, I also prefer using this extension, but in case of streaming media I use RipTiger (http://www.riptiger.com/) software.

works fine for me with Firefox / Suse 12.1 Linux. Your mileage may vary. No experience with M$.
If you install VLC, there is not really any need to convert the file format since VLC will play most any of them including flv. Again, this works for me in a Linux environment...
