Anyone know of a decent freeware / low cost PDF writer/editor that doesn't install a bunch of spyware? Adobe charges $400+ to buy theirs, but I wouldn't need it often enough to justify that kind of expense.

TIA

I enjoyed Nitro PDF's functionality and interface. Check out some screenshots on google images, or vids on youtube.

It also includes the functionality so that you can create your documents in an MS Word docx (and other apps) and acts as a virtual printer; meaning, when you hit print in Word or any other app, you see your regular printers, and Nitro PDF, hitting it results in a PDF doc (with settings / config options of course).

I think Office 2011 has this 'to PDF' functionality built in now though, if you're going that route in doc creation.

Acrobat X is ugly and bloated as ever. Those people at Adobe are getting lazier by the year, yet their prices go up. Optimization isn't in their vocabulary. The only good thing I can say about Adobe in recent times is their addition of OpenGL functionality while editing/scrolling/panning in Photoshop 12+. That's good stuff.

Good call, P.E. Thank you, sir! 14 day free trial and $99 to buy it. Saved me $300 bucks over Adobe. I've been playing with it since I read your reply and it does everything I need it to do and then some.

I get a lot of documents sent to me in PDF format, and I have to make changes or fill in blanks and send them back or file them with courts or agencies. My typewriter bit the dust and nobody sells them anymore, so I've been printing the documents out, using whiteout over the parts that need changing, and handwriting the corrections in. That looks shitty if it's some kind of official document.

I'll buy you a beer or 6 if you're ever down in South Mississippi.

You could try Open Office (OO)

Here is a link to the OO download page for M$ operating systems::

http://tinyurl.com/3l443vy

OO will format, has fonts, will read M$ files, and will output PDF files with embedded
pictures etc.

OO is open source and FREE. Yes, that's FREE as in no cost, no trial period timebomb.

I use it in LINUXand it works for me. Your mileage may vary.

I second OpenOffice. A bit of a resource hog for older computers, especially the newest version, but it will definitely do the job.

Open Office has got a good pdf writer and editor. Performs almost the same as Adobe's. Should be able to do the trick for you.
