The new Hitlerian year, which begins on April 20, 2012, is enumerated JdF-123.

Background

Every great, epoch-making faith counts the years since its beginning. For the Christians, this is the year AD 2012, which is the putative number of years since the birth of its savior, Jesus of Nazareth. For Muslims, the current year is AH 1433, this being the number of years since the flight of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina. According to the Jewish calendar, we now live in the year 5772, computing time backwards to the creation of the Universe in Hebrew mythology. In the traditional Chinese calendar, the current year is 4709 (Year of the Water Dragon.)

The Hitlerian year reckons the passage of time since the birth of Adolf Hitler in Braunau-am-Inn on April 20, 1889.

Origin of the Hitlerian Year

The Christian monk Dionsysius Exiguus is credited with the calendar years formally denominated by Anno Domini (Year of the Lord), and which are now used not just by Christians, but by the whole world.

The Hitlerian year was first used by Matt Koehl, current commander of the NEW ORDER and the World Union of National Socialists. Back in the mid-1960s, Koehl was the national secretary of George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party, as well as the corresponding secretary of WUNS. One day in 1965, without any fanfare or big announcement, he quietly began adding the notation "YF-76" to the date of Party and WUNS correspondence. This stood for "Year of the Fuehrer 76," that is, the 76th year since the birth of Adolf Hitler. Shortly after, Koehl used the YF date on the first issue of the WUNS Bulletin. From these humble beginnings, it quickly spread throughout the global NS community.

The Prefix

As mentioned, Koehl first used the initials YF - for Year of the Fuehrer - to designate the Hitlerian year. However, some people pointed out that it was considered bad form to mix ywo different languages in the same phrase. Consequently, beginning with the new Hitlerian year in 1976, the prefix was changed to "YL," for "Year of the Leader." This usage continued until the mid-1990s, when it was decided that for common worldwide usage, it was more appropriate to denote the prefix in Hitler's own language. For a short while, the designation "FJ" was employed, for "Fuehrersjahr."

By 1998, the current designation had been adopted: "JdF," for Jahr des Fuehrers.

Determining the Current Year

To figure out the Hitlerian year on any given date, subtract 1888 from the calendar year prior to April 20. (2012 minus 1888 equals JdF-122.) For dates on or after April 20, subtract 1889. (2012 minus 1889 equals JdF-123.)

Celebrating the Hitlerian New Year's Day

April 20 is the most joyous, festive date in the Hitlerian year. National-Socialist comrades and NS sympathizers the world over celebrate the day with private ceremonies and gatherings, as well as with public activity. Candles are traditionally lit in front of Swastika banners and busts of Hitler, and portraits of him are festooned with sprigs of spring greenery and flowers. National-Socialists unable to spend the happy occasion with other comrades, mark the day privately in the solitude of their own hearts.

And above all, on this deeply spiritual occasion, new reserves of commitment and energy are summoned forth on the part of the faithful to carry the Good Word of Adolf Hitler to the Aryan world over the next 12 months.

DENVER — A Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher facing federal charges of traveling to Colorado to have sex with children has apparently killed himself in prison, officials said Monday.

Yaron Segal, 30, an Israeli citizen, died Friday, said John Sell, executive assistant with the Federal Correctional Institution Englewood.

Guards found Segal alone, hanging from a homemade noose in his cell at the detention center, where defendants are held while awaiting trial, Sell said. The federal jail is a separate facility next to a minimum -security prison where former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich began serving his 14-year corruption sentence last month.

Segal's death is being investigated by the FBI. He was being held without bail on two charges of traveling to engage in sex with minors, and a charge of using the mail to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to have sex.

Homeland Security Investigations agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Segal in Grand Junction shortly after he arrived there by plane March 28. Authorities said Segal exchanged sexually explicit emails with an undercover agent and expressed a desire to have sex with two young children, one under the age of 16 and another under the age of 12.

Segal worked as a postdoctoral assistant in MIT's Photovoltaics Research Laboratory, which develops solar energy cells, according to a letter sent to U.S. District Court. Segal was working on developing manufacturing equipment to produce efficient and cost-effective solar cells and intended to produce the first prototype cells this month, according to a letter signed by MIT's Tonio Buonassisi, the lab's principal investigator.

Buonassisi and other MIT officials did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Buonassisi's letter described Segal as well regarded and said Segal was a leader within the research group who closely mentored five graduate students. Segal had also served as the lead in writing six research proposals that raised more than $1.8 million in research funding for the laboratory.

A man believed to be Segal started communicating with the undercover agent in February in chat rooms that referenced child rape, torture, brutality and children as sex slaves, according to an arrest affidavit. Authorities said the man believed to be Segal sent sexually explicit photographs and video of himself via email, spoke to the undercover agent by phone and said he had purchased sex toys for the children.

According to an arrest affidavit, ICE Department of Homeland Security investigators traced an email handle, "ruthlessmale," to New Haven, Conn., then to Cambridge, and then to Segal.

During a hearing April 3, Segal waived a preliminary hearing in which authorities present evidence supporting the charges. A U.S. magistrate judge ordered Segal held without bail.
