I have been suffering with slow internet for all my life. I have never had high speed internet. Never.

It sucks. I can't do much of anything.

The reason why is I live in a rural area and High Speed is not offered. I do have a broadband 4G/3G type of service from Sprint but it really sucks. It is slow and spotty. It is just a little better than dial up. When it works.

Dish network just launched a new satellite and just started (10/2012) offering an internet package. They claim it will do (up to) 10 MPS? download and 2 MPS upload. It has a cap of 15 Gig.

This would blow away my current service and solve some of my connection problems. My main use would be for Internet meetings where we use intense graphics. Right now I have to go to an associates office to do my meetings and presentations.

I can't seem to find very much info about it on the internet. I want to know if it works.

Does anyone know anything about this? Please share.

I can't speak for Dish Net, But years ago I has Hughesnet when nothing else was available in my area. I had no complains at all. It worked very well. I would have no problem using it again if I lived where nothing else was available.

I had a terrible experience with HughesNet, from (contracted, alcoholic) install to eventual cancellation. It was like the Amtrak of satellite service: expensive, slow, and terrible, victim-blaming customer service. And they spoke minimal English.

My dealings with Dish Network have always been fantastic.

I can't speak to their new internet service.

I knew about Hughes net but it did not seem to be the solution.

It had terrible reviews on the net. It had a delay of several seconds which would make interaction for meetings unacceptable. It also used the phone line for uploads. Also unacceptable. Expensive and slow. Maybe they fixed all of that, it was about 10 years ago when I researched it.

I was just wondering about the new Dish network service. Does it have a lag? How does the upload work?

I called dish. They claim that the dish directly uploads to the satellite from my location. No phone jacks.

I went ahead an ordered it. I hope it works. Finally fast internet! Maybe.

I will report back on the results.

15 GB cap? That is basically 3 DVDs worth of data, and then you are capped out. That really isn't that much bandwidth they are giving you. You would be better off trying to get DSL through your phone company. That is what I'm using and there is no data cap, its unlimited. And there have been a few months where I've put that to the test and they never complained. They also don't monitor file transfers, meaning I can torrent as much free stuff as I want, and they aren't gonna say anything. I don't pay for software these days, same goes for movies, games, or anything else in the form of data.

Another problem with satellite, is every time the sky gets a little overcast your internet is gonna run slow and possibly disconnect on you. Back when I used to have satellite TV, cloud cover alone could interrupt the signal, and it didn't even need to be severe weather.

And everyone I ever know who has had Hughesnet has told me its terrible. Its slow, and I even heard they put a 200mb limit on individual file transfers? Then they throttle you? That is gay as hell.

There are many negatives to this service. The Cap sucks. It is 15 Gig prime time and 15 Gig in off hours. That is 30 Gig total. You can buy 3 Gig chunks for 25 zogbux a piece.
Weather will mess up the signal.
Snow stuck on the dish will be a problem too.

The positive is that it is supposed to be a new technology from a freshly launched satellite. The speeds are supposed to be pretty fast compared to dial up. They claim faster than DSL.

DSL is not available at my location. Otherwise I would have gotten it years ago.

My current connection is a 3G/4G service from Sprint with a 12 Gig cap. It really sucks and it is the best one. I am in an area where cell towers don't reach well. I get 120kbps / 180 kbps. That is the best. It also constantly drops and bad weather makes it worse.

The dish service is cheaper that the sprint service and has free installation.

This service will have limitations and I will not be able to download like crazy. It is not nearly as good as cable. But I should at least be able to stream video. The main purpose I am getting it is so I can do presentations to my clients from my computer. Currently I have to travel to one of my associates office to do this.

I knew that Hughes net and wild blue were not very good. This is supposed to be a new technology.

I hope it works!

I have it. It works.

It is very fast but it does have a delay of about .2-.5 seconds. Online FPS gaming does not work. but it does stream video and the speeds are 7-12 Mbps. Much better than dial up or mobile. I already used a good portion of my monthly cap. This could get expensive.

Not as good as cable.

Overall I am happy.

Hi,
I can't speak for Dish Web,I ues HughesNet Gen4 is the next generation of high-speed satellite Internet (http://www.yourlocalinstaller.com/) that will let you do more of what you want online.. It worked well. I might have virtually no problem utilizing it once again if or when I resided where absolutely nothing else ended up being available. .

Sorry to break the bad news....but Dishnet is Hughes Net practically! Echostar who is Disnetwork just acquired (bought) Hughes Net. So when you have an installer come out to your house to install the Dishnet service...its a Hughes Net product which consist of the modem that has a Dishnet logo on it instead of Hughes and the satellite dish is a different size and look but used the exact Hughes Radio on the dish. Gen4 is only available in certain markets and other markets still use the Spaceway satellite which most of you may know, is Hughes!

You are right. It is Hughes. It is the next gen of satellite service. A new satellite and much better and faster. It is not bad news, just a correction.

So far I am happy with the service. Cable would be great but it is nonexistent here.
