WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A senior U.S. Marine Corps general who said it was "fun to shoot some people" should have chosen his words more carefully but will not be disciplined, military officials said on Thursday.

Lt. Gen. James Mattis, who commanded troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and is slated to be portrayed by star actor Harrison Ford in an upcoming Hollywood movie, made the comments at a conference on Tuesday in San Diego, California.

"Actually it's quite fun to fight 'em, you know. It's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up front with you, I like brawling," Mattis said.

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said during a panel discussion. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

In a statement, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Michael Hagee praised Mattis as "one of this country's bravest and most experienced military leaders."

"While I understand that some people may take issue with the comments made by him, I also know he intended to reflect the unfortunate and harsh realities of war," Hagee said.

"Lt. Gen. Mattis often speaks with a great deal of candor. I have counseled him concerning his remarks and he agrees he should have chosen his words more carefully," Hagee added.

Maj. Jason Johnston, a Marine spokesman at the Pentagon, said Hagee did not plan disciplinary action against Mattis. Johnston declined to specify how Hagee had counseled Mattis.

During a Pentagon briefing, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld did not criticize Mattis' remarks, saying, "I have not read his words. I don't know what he said precisely or the context."

'THE RIGHT EXAMPLE'

Marine Gen. Peter Pace, vice chairman of the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, lauded Mattis' record and leadership.

Without explicitly criticizing Mattis, Pace told the briefing, "First of all, all of us who are leaders have a responsibility in our words and our actions to provide the right example all the time for those who look to us for leadership."

Mattis, formally promoted to three-star general last month, heads the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, at Quantico, Virginia.

In November 2001, Mattis proclaimed, "We have landed and we now own terrain in south Afghanistan," after Marines took over a desert airstrip. The comment ruffled feathers at the Pentagon, where officials were uneasy with a U.S. general talking about owning Afghanistan.

In Iraq, he commanded the 1st Marine Division during the 2003 invasion and subsequent counterinsurgency operations.

Mattis was ordered to lead an assault on the Iraqi city of Falluja in April 2004 after the slaying and mutilation of four American contractors, but U.S. leaders halted the offensive and withdrew his Marines before a decisive showdown. He wrapped up his service in Iraq in August, a spokeswoman said.

In November, Marines under different command seized control of the city after the U.S. presidential election.

Ford has been pegged to play the role of Mattis in the film version of an upcoming book "No True Glory," an account of the April battle for Falluja written by Marine veteran Bing West.

Senior Pentagon Intelligence official Lt. Gen. William Boykin referred in 2003 to the struggle against Islamic extremists as a battle with Satan. In a speech, Boykin referred to a Muslim fighter in Somalia, and said, "Well, you know what I knew, that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol."

The Pentagon inspector general concluded in August that Boykin should face "appropriate corrective action," and a senior Army general said in October said unspecified action had been taken against Boykin.

Yep, I bet it was fun killing all 16 of these guys. The 100,000 or more old men, women, and babies you killed were probably even more fun.

This man is filth and those who work for him are filth. I prey I live to see him and his brethren tried, and hanged for their war crimes.

I enlisted in the United States military March 14th, 1968, two days before the infamous Ma Lai massacre. About a year and a half later, in a bar with my enlisted mates, at the invitation of our commanding officer, the subject was raised. (It was one of those uncomfortable shows of 'democracy' between the CO and his men.) The CO asked us in the same situation, if ordered to do so, would we shoot civilians. A good number, probably a small majority, said no. I flat out told him, that I would not kill civilians under direct order to do so. He was visibly taken aback, and said straight out that if he gave an order to kill a civilian and the order was refused, he would immediately execute the man who refused the order.

At that time I viscerally learned that I have more in common with a Vietnamese peasant or Iraqi civilian that I have to any aggressive murderous state or its paid killers.

This man is a typical product of the Jew. He would just as easily shoot white nationalists if given the order by ZOG. Unfortunately there are many like him.

It amazes me how stupid many of these so called “soldiers” are. In my opinion I think it would be very funny if this guy was beheaded over there :D

Has anyone seen Fahrenheit 911? In one part the brain dead “soldiers” are shown changing their CD’s over so they can listen to a "good track" while they kill people.

I think FAHRENHEIT 9/11 is required watching.

OK , Michael Moore is a left wing oaf. But when he asked members of the US Senate to get THEIR kids to enlist to fight in IRAQ , you couldn't see their arses for dust !

Typical they get our Nations into war, then retire to their funkholes and send other peoples children to fight and die.

I remember a cartoon (maybe in a nationalist publication) of a soldier with fixed bayonet in Africa. Cept the bayonet was a butter knife and he was spreading some substance on the bread held by an outstretched hand of a starving African.

It seemed to say very simply what I believe we all intuitively know. That is it's ridiculous to expect young men trained up & just out of a combat situation and with a testosterone fuelled bravado to act like wet nurses.

If there are jobs that need social workers send some of our social workers (please.)

You hear newspaper blather about Frank Kitson developing his "hearts and mind" policy (against the Mau Mau?) but how long can it hold up in those sort of situations?

It's distateful what happens. The situation in Bosnia with women imported & raped by local gangs to feed the sexual desires of the lusty world soldiery sent to keep the peace is disgusting but that's what seems to occur.

A soldier's primary duty is to protect his comrades & fight and kill when politicians decide our national interest is threatened.

Of course it isn't widespread but...

Another point. Doesn't this jewish general understand how much he puts US troops and American civilians abroad in danger when he utters his crap publicly?

Either Bush and Rumsfeld are stupid not to fire this man immediately and publicly, or they want for some perverse jewish geo-strategical reason attacks on Americans. For instance, maybe the jews think it's good if american prisoners get beheaded, because it will enrage the lemmings.

That's it 999. Bush-ZOG does everything it can to provoke attacks against Americans to (as you say) enrage the lemmings.

Same thing happened prior to WWI and WWII when ZOG and the jews' media orchestrated hatred for the Germans. The lemmings were herded like cattle into eagerly joining in those butcheries in Europe that resulted in the deaths of over 60 million White gentiles. OVER 60 MILLION OF US !!!!!!

Lest we forget, the ZOG deliberately and knowingly murdered over 500,000 innocent Iraqi children and infants thru a decade-long sanction of food and medicines (1990-2000). You might recall that the then jewish Secretary of State, Madilynn Albright told one reporter when asked what she thought of those 500,000 deaths, "Yes, we think it was worth it."

Just as the ZOG provoked American wars against the German enemies of the jews, so too is ZOG now provoking American wars against the Islamic enemies of the jews.

Hey Glenn,

welcome to the United Kingdom section.

Can you please post that link of your book in here, so us 'lime eaters' can read it ?

As I have discussed with you the 'Greensboro job' needs to be written about from our perspective.

I would agree it is definitely required viewing, I like how it shows how dumb Bush is :D That part when Moore is outside the senate asking the senators if they will send their children is very moving. I think in this current political climate you will hear a lot more truth from the left wing over the right.

You damn right he would, Serbain. ZOG pays his salary and will pay his lifelong pension. His self-interests therefore compells him to do as ZOG says, while lying to himself and everyone else, that he's serving his country.

Next time you view photos of lines and lines of the graves of White American and European war dead, if you listen closely, you can hear what they whisper to us from their graves:

"When asked why we died, tell them because our fathers lied."

US general finds 'fun' in killing

Friday 04 February 2005, 22:03 Makka Time, 19:03 GMT

A number of US servicemen are facing action for prison abuses

According to an NBC-affiliated website, a US general in charge of troops in Iraq has said he derived pleasure from partaking in fighting and killing people.

Speaking at a panel discussion on Tuesday, Lt-Gen James Mattis, responsible for Camp Pendleton's 1st Marine Division in Iraq, said he had fun shooting Afghan men who he claimed beat women for five years.

"You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So, it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them," he said to clapping from the panel's audience.

According to NBCSanDiego.com, Mattis is quoted as saying: "Actually, its a lot of fun to fight. You know, it's a hell of a hoot. I like brawling."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil liberties group, called on the Pentagon to discipline Mattis for the remarks.

"We do not need generals who treat the grim business of war as a sporting event," said the council's executive director, Nihad Awad. "These disturbing remarks are indicative of an apparent indifference to the value of human life."

Satan in Falluja

In November, US Marine Colonel Gareth Brandl caused an uproar when he claimed that Satan lived in Falluja – a pretext for attacking the town of 300,000.

"The marines that I have had wounded over the past five months have been attacked by a faceless enemy. But the enemy has got a face. He's called Satan. He lives in Falluja. And we're going to destroy him," BBC embed Paul Wood quoted Brandl as saying on the outskirts of Falluja
