Police have made little progress in identifying why Fong, 37, allegedly twice aimed his car at the young Sunnyvale family Wednesday afternoon, sending all four of them to the hospital.

"He looked me dead in the face, put it in gear and floored it toward me, and that's when I made the decision, 'This is wrong, I'm out of here,' " said Meehan, who suffered two rib fractures and ligament damage to his arm when he fell to the ground.

He said Fong delivered a glancing blow with the side of his car to the father, who was holding his 18-month-old daughter.

Ngai Fung Fong is being held in Santa Clara County Jail after allegedly using his car to hit a mother, father and their two children as they walked along a sidewalk Wednesday afternoon.

One of the children -- a five-year-old boy -- is critical condition.
