Is it true that Rammstein is a closet German nationalist band or are they attempting gaining publicity? This theory is widely speculated in Germany

du! du hast! du hast mich!
I dont speak German so I cant tell from their lyrical content anything about this. I will say I have the album "Sennsucht" and it kicks ass.
In the US, I've spooked many a spook with this music, deep voices German lyrics laid over techno. They squint their eyes like they're trying to figure out wtf the guy is saying.
Art is never entirely genuine, nor entirely false. Art is man-made, it is artifice, it is artificial. What matters less than what they mean, is how it makes you the listener feel.
It's like communion. It doesnt matter if the priest believes, so long as he says the right magic words.

I don't have the CD, but I know which song u mean. If we can arrange a time where I can download the CD onto my computer, I'll even translate the entire CD. I have "Gozilla" software for that, but I've been told that it isn't a good idea to use it.

I guess they could be talking about nintendo for all I care. I like their spin on techno, I like to hear the German language though I dont speak it. When I get the time and money I'll learn it. for now, like I said, its enjoyable.

No, Rammstein ain't a nationalist band. their lyrics are harmless.

-LANDSER
-STÖRKRAFT
-MACHT UND EHRE
-ZILLERTALER TÜRKENJÄGER
-BÖHSE ONKELZ (only the old ones)
there are some more...

Yeah, I know. That's what I hate about these guys. They had some poster advertising their appearance in town which reflected this sick promotional stunt, but not all their songs are that way. If they just crossed that line, they have the potential of becomming the best pro-White band ever. Sadly, money seems to be their 1st priority, at the moment.

The music sounds good. I was just really turned off when I learned some german and deciphered some of the lyrics. I'm not too keen on songs about guys touching guys. Guess I'm "Homophobic".

Do you think if they were WN that they would be on German radio or have a contract for that matter? They have tried to skirt the public opinion of being hardcore but never saying if or not they are WN.

I went & got me the “Sehnsucht CD. Their lyrics are often humorous. My favorite, thus most “kick ass(as you refer) song on the CD is the 3rd one called, “Tier (animal). Although these songs are sung phoenetically, thus needing no written material, the written lyrics are nevertheless there. Do you want any translations?

Rammstein are a bunch of sick fags and fettishist. I would never support anything they do even if they were the most active public enemy #1 national socialist in Germany. I hope for anyone's sake they don't give these guys a penny and at least rip their music off the net if they have to listen to them that badly. They deserve death in my opinion.

DU
You
DU HAST

DU HAST MICH
You have me
You forgot to mention that "Du hast mich" sounds like "Du hasst mich", which means "You hate me." Thus the first part of the chorus is kind of designed to give you the wrong (right?) idea, being "YOU.... YOU HATE.... YOU HATE ME... YOU HATE ME..." which then changes to "You have asked me (a question)" when "gefragt" is added to the end.

Yeah, I agree somewhat, they pretty much do everything they can to be completely outrageous and over the top, like wearing gigantic dildos on stage and such, which shoot fake semen every once and a while. Pretty disgusting. But I can rationalize it somewhat because it's fairly clear that they're doing it for the sole purpose of being as shocking as they possibly can. Which actually is pretty Jewish too, now that I think of it.

Of course we know it's for shock value.I just think the guys could drop the act though and sell the same amount of records as before without the side show. Some stuff the cheesy death metal bands do like their fake blood doesn't even bother me but I just wonder what's next for this band and what they can get away with? bringing out some sheeps and goats maybe? maybe a couple of dogs too thrown in while they're at it and well you know...

Trouble iz, royalties on record sales are lousy. A band today has to rely on showmanship to fill concert halls :( , thus making their wörk profitable

Good point. There are probably plenty of fans like me who like the music but would never go to a concert because of what they reputedly do on stage. Toning it down a bit would probably increase their audience size.

Well, being an American who didn't know German at the time, that was how the song was first explained to me by other Americans. Maybe this extra meaning isn't as apparent to Germans, since after all "du hast" is a very normal part of the language and most Germans I'm sure wouldn't immediately think "You hate" upon hearing "du hast".
However, in the English-language version of the song they say "You hate." I don't know how much later they released the English version after the German version, though, so maybe it wasn't their original intent. *shrug*

I didn't know there was an English version :o Hast and hasst are supposed to be pronounced differently. Since I'm not German, I never noticed the subtle difference

This is my favorite song on the album. I take it to be insultive to incestual  fathers.
It’s #3 on the “Sehnsucht” CD – the song called “Tier” (“Animal”)
Direct German to English translation in the parenthesis:
Was macht ein Mann?
What does a man do? (What does a Man?)
repetition
der zwischen Mensch und Tier nicht unterscheiden kann?
who can’t differentiate between between human beings and animals?
(who between Man and Beast not differentiate can?)
Was?!
What?!
Er wird zu seiner Tochter gehen
He goes to his daughter (He is to his Daughter going)
Sie ist schön und jung an Jahren
She is beautiful and young in years (“young in Years” isn’t normally said in German. The lyric is filler to reach the number of syllables needed)
Und dann wird er wie ein Hund mit eigen Fleisch und Blut sich paaren
And then he pairs (mates) with his own flesh and blood, like a dog (And then goes he like a Dog with own Flesh and Blood to pair)
Was tust du?
What are you doing? (What do you?)
Was fühlst du?
What do you feel? (What feeling you?)
Was bist du?
What are you?
Doch nur ein Tier
Certainly, only an animal
Was macht die Frau?
What is the woman doing? (What does the Woman?)
repetition
die zwischen Tier und Mann nicht unterscheiden kann?
who can’t differentiate between beast and man? (who between Beast and Man not differentiate can?)
Sie taucht die Feder in sein Blut
She dips the fountain pen in his blood
Schreibt sich selber einen Brief
Writes herself a letter
entseelte Zeilen an die Kindheit
pours her soul out in the sentences referring to (her) childhood
(desouls (on) Sentences about (the) Childhööd)
als der Vater bei ihr schlief
as the (her) father slept by her (as the Father by her slept (sex))
What are you doing?
What do you feel?
What are you?
Certainly, only an animal
