Maybe this is a little late for the north east, but it can still work. Is anybody interested in setting up a seed exchange? I saved seeds from 4 or 5 varieties of heirloom tomatoes last year and have more than I need. Anyone out there interested in trading for other open -pollinated seeds, or just need some heirloom tomato seeds?
I have:
Red Brandywine (could not taste better - big and a nice deep red color.
Azoychka - Bright yellow, excellent, rich flavor - pretty big size.
Opalka - Polish red plum tomato. Big size for plums, rich meaty taste.
Rainbow - yellow and red streaks, good taste but not as good as the pure yellow or brandywine. Enormous size and really spectacular looking. A lot of them developed splits for me last summer.
A rich orange colored oblong tomato that was in another packet of seeds by accident. Really nice color and excellent taste. Smallish size.

I laid the beds for my garden last year. This year I am going to aim for onion, asparagus, and chive. Those are simple low maintenance food items, and I have successfully cultivated them before. I may get fancy and add something else. Around here everybody grows tomoatoes, then gives em away. So I will do something different.
Arent you Italian? Eye-talians are great at gardening. I have an Eye-talian buddy here who is a doctor, and he keeps a great garden. He is always trying to get me to take him shooting, and I keep on asking him about his garden. But he always wants to talk guns! Crazy doctors.

i haven't decided for tomatoes, but I'm going to have extra asparagus plants.
I did an order will will have 10 plants, I'm thinking I do not need more than 5.
I'm willing to exchange those for seeds or whatever.
you can PM for details.

Ja, I am. Half anyway. The good half. I'm only pretty good at gardening though...must be cuz I'm only half. After having no garden for years, I decided to try again and wound up with 120 or so tomato plants last year, and made near a thousand bucks selling some to a local vegetable stand. And I boiled and canned and froze and dried tomatoes too...lots and lots of them (too many maybe). I've hardly bought a vegetable since last spring cuz of this garden thing. These old fashioned tomatoes are neat cuz they can be easily propagated from seeds which are super easy to collect. No matter how bad things may get, if you grow open pollinated types of vegetables, you can save the seeds and have plants true to the variety.
I tried onions last year but the ****ing voles ate them all. The little ****ers got a lot of the beets too.

I'll probably plant garlic and potatoes in my flower bed again this year. Other than that, I'm waiting for my trees to grow. Orcharding is easier than farming. You don't have to pull a plow through the dirt or dig up an acre every year.
