If your clothes come out of the dryer with grease stains (food type), wash them again in the hottest water they can stand and use washing soda (it is like borax) according to directions on the box.
Remove ink pen stains from clothes by spraying with hair spray (I've had one can of Aqua-net for 10 or so years, still works) rinse with cold water, rub the stain. Usually it comes right out, sometimes you need to repeat. Don't wash it until you get the stain out.
Clean a gunky tub with a fabric softener sheet or scrub with baking soda, Tide or Cascade and boiling water. All these work better than professional cleansers, at least on my tub.
Baked on grease - comes right off with baking soda and vinegar. Also comes off with ammonia, but ammonia is smelly.
Add a few tablespoons of baking soda and vinegar to your dishwasher to completely eliminate 'restaurant kitchen' odors and get cleaner dishes. This can also boost a cheap dishwashing powder to work better.
Leftover pancake batter won't go moldy in the refrig. overnight if you put it in a tall glass or jar and pour a little rum or brandy over it. This will sit on the top and you can pour it off before using the batter.
You won't get flat, runny cookies if you make the cookies small and use the old fashioned pans that turn black, not the non stick aluminum kind. If you use nonstick aluminum, you can use half butter and half shortening in the recipe and chill the dough before you bake. (This works fine but is not so tasty as all butter.)
This happened to me - the sink was draining okay but making a strange dripping sound. No leak could be found. I ignored it quite some time, then one day the sink was plugged up and Draino and plunging didn't work. I called a plumber and he spent quite some time snaking out all the pipes with an electric snake, inc. the roof vents. Said they were full of 'grease'. He told me that prof. drain openers always damage the pipes and the best thing to open a drain is vinegar and baking soda mixed.
Ants hate vinegar.
Fleas hate pennyroyal, an herb ground cover you can easily grow. But pennyroyal is not a patch on those flea prevention pills from the vets.
Vaseline is the best thing for dry skin or chapped lips. Glob it on at night. But if you use it during the day, mix the vaseline with water, apply, and then wipe it off with a towel.
