I was really surprised to see that Hilary's It Takes a Village did not beat out Mein Kampf.
The Turner Diaries not only didn’t make it in the top ten, it didn’t even make it in the list of the extra bad books. Even the population bomb made #11.
1. The Communist Manifesto
http://www.humaneventsonline.com/story-images/05springbook/communistmanifesto.jpg
Authors: Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels
Publication date: 1848
Score: 74
Summary: Marx and Engels, born in Germany in 1818 and 1820, respectively, were the intellectual godfathers of communism. Engels was the original limousine leftist: A wealthy textile heir, he financed Marx for much of his life. In 1848, the two co-authored The Communist Manifesto as a platform for a group they belonged to called the Communist League. The Manifesto envisions history as a class struggle between oppressed workers and oppressive owners, calling for a workers’ revolution so property, family and nation-states can be abolished and a proletarian Utopia established. The Evil Empire of the Soviet Union put the Manifesto into practice.
--------------------------------------
2. Mein Kampf
http://www.humaneventsonline.com/story-images/05springbook/meinkampt.jpg
Author: Adolf Hitler
Publication date: 1925-26
Score: 41
Summary: Mein Kampf (My Struggle) was initially published in two parts in 1925 and 1926 after Hitler was imprisoned for leading Nazi Brown Shirts in the so-called “Beer Hall Putsch” that tried to overthrow the Bavarian government. Here Hitler explained his racist, anti-Semitic vision for Germany, laying out a Nazi program pointing directly to World War II and the Holocaust. He envisioned the mass murder of Jews, and a war against France to precede a war against Russia to carve out “lebensraum” (“living room”) for Germans in Eastern Europe. The book was originally ignored. But not after Hitler rose to power. According to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, there were 10 million copies in circulation by 1945.
----------------------------------
3. Quotations from Chairman Mao
Author: Mao Zedong
Publication date: 1966
Score: 38
Summary: Mao, who died in 1976, was the leader of the Red Army in the fight for control of China against the anti-Communist forces of Chiang Kai-shek before, during and after World War II. Victorious, in 1949, he founded the People’s Republic of China, enslaving the world’s most populous nation in communism. In 1966, he published Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong, otherwise known as The Little Red Book, as a tool in the “Cultural Revolution” he launched to push the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese society back in his ideological direction. Aided by compulsory distribution in China, billions were printed. Western leftists were enamored with its Marxist anti-Americanism. “It is the task of the people of the whole world to put an end to the aggression and oppression perpetrated by imperialism, and chiefly by U.S. imperialism,” wrote Mao.
---------------------------------
4. The Kinsey Report
Author: Alfred Kinsey
Publication date: 1948
Score: 37
Summary: Alfred Kinsey was a zoologist at Indiana University who, in 1948, published a study called Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, commonly known as The Kinsey Report. Five years later, he published Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. The reports were designed to give a scientific gloss to the normalization of promiscuity and deviancy. “Kinsey’s initial report, released in 1948 . . . stunned the nation by saying that American men were so sexually wild that 95% of them could be accused of some kind of sexual offense under 1940s laws,” the Washington Times reported last year when a movie on Kinsey was released. “The report included reports of sexual activity by boys--even babies--and said that 37% of adult males had had at least one homosexual experience. . . . The 1953 book also included reports of sexual activity involving girls younger than age 4, and suggested that sex between adults and children could be beneficial.”
---------------------------
5. Democracy and Education
Author: John Dewey
Publication date: 1916
Score: 36
Summary: John Dewey, who lived from 1859 until 1952, was a “progressive” philosopher and leading advocate for secular humanism in American life, who taught at the University of Chicago and at Columbia. He signed the Humanist Manifesto and rejected traditional religion and moral absolutes. In Democracy and Education, in pompous and opaque prose, he disparaged schooling that focused on traditional character development and endowing children with hard knowledge, and encouraged the teaching of thinking “skills” instead. His views had great influence on the direction of American education--particularly in public schools--and helped nurture the Clinton generation.
-----------------------------
6. Das Kapital
Author: Karl Marx
Publication date: 1867-1894
Score: 31
Summary: Marx died after publishing a first volume of this massive book, after which his benefactor Engels edited and published two additional volumes that Marx had drafted. Das Kapital forces the round peg of capitalism into the square hole of Marx’s materialistic theory of history, portraying capitalism as an ugly phase in the development of human society in which capitalists inevitably and amorally exploit labor by paying the cheapest possible wages to earn the greatest possible profits. Marx theorized that the inevitable eventual outcome would be global proletarian revolution. He could not have predicted 21st Century America: a free, affluent society based on capitalism and representative government that people the world over envy and seek to emulate.
------------------------------
7. The Feminine Mystique
Author: Betty Friedan
Publication date: 1963
Score: 30
Summary: In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan, born in 1921, disparaged traditional stay-at-home motherhood as life in “a comfortable concentration camp”--a role that degraded women and denied them true fulfillment in life. She later became founding president of the National Organization for Women. Her original vocation, tellingly, was not stay-at-home motherhood but left-wing journalism. As David Horowitz wrote in a review for Salon.com of Betty Friedan and the Making of the Feminine Mystique by Daniel Horowitz (no relation to David): The author documents that “Friedan was from her college days, and until her mid-30s, a Stalinist Marxist, the political intimate of the leaders of America’s Cold War fifth column and for a time even the lover of a young Communist physicist working on atomic bomb projects in Berkeley’s radiation lab with J. Robert Oppenheimer.”
-----------------------------
8. The Course of Positive Philosophy
Author: Auguste Comte
Publication date: 1830-1842
Score: 28
Summary: Comte, the product of a royalist Catholic family that survived the French Revolution, turned his back on his political and cultural heritage, announcing as a teenager, “I have naturally ceased to believe in God.” Later, in the six volumes of The Course of Positive Philosophy, he coined the term “sociology.” He did so while theorizing that the human mind had developed beyond “theology” (a belief that there is a God who governs the universe), through “metaphysics” (in this case defined as the French revolutionaries’ reliance on abstract assertions of “rights” without a God), to “positivism,” in which man alone, through scientific observation, could determine the way things ought to be.
------------------------------
9. Beyond Good and Evil
Author: Freidrich Nietzsche
Publication date: 1886
Score: 28
Summary: An oft-scribbled bit of college-campus graffiti says: “‘God is dead’--Nietzsche” followed by “‘Nietzsche is dead’--God.” Nietzsche’s profession that “God is dead” appeared in his 1882 book, The Gay Science, but under-girded the basic theme of Beyond Good and Evil, which was published four years later. Here Nietzsche argued that men are driven by an amoral “Will to Power,” and that superior men will sweep aside religiously inspired moral rules, which he deemed as artificial as any other moral rules, to craft whatever rules would help them dominate the world around them. “Life itself is essentially appropriation, injury, overpowering of the strange and weaker, suppression, severity, imposition of one’s own forms, incorporation and, at the least and mildest, exploitation,” he wrote. The Nazis loved Nietzsche.
-----------------------------
10. General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money
Author: John Maynard Keynes
Publication date: 1936
Score: 23
Summary: Keynes was a member of the British elite--educated at Eton and Cambridge--who as a liberal Cambridge economics professor wrote General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money in the midst of the Great Depression. The book is a recipe for ever-expanding government. When the business cycle threatens a contraction of industry, and thus of jobs, he argued, the government should run up deficits, borrowing and spending money to spur economic activity. FDR adopted the idea as U.S. policy, and the U.S. government now has a $2.6-trillion annual budget and an $8-trillion dollar debt.

'God is dead' is a Lutheran hymn. Nietzsche's old man was a Lutheran pastor. Hegel wrote about the death of god LONG before Nietzsche. Hegel, unsuprisingly, was a Lutheran. I wouldn't take Comte too seriously. Ironically, Hegel directly influenced Marx (2), Comte, Nietzsche, Lenin, Mao, Gramsci, Sorel and Adorno. And he got away scot-free (he was a Christian conservative in his later years).

I don't think you've read Nietzsche too closely if you tie him to Hegel. I would possibly agree with a claim that Hegel indirectly influenced him, but this would have to be investigated. Most of his remarks on Hegel are critical; and apart from an adoration of the "great man", their philosophies bear little resemblance, external or internal. Hegel's fundamental is that society can reach a final state; Nietzsche vigorously denied all "final states".
Yes, sure, why be surprised that Hegel was Lutheran? One can read that in any bio online or off. As for your claim that "God is Dead" was a Lutheran hymn, I would have to see proof. Perhaps it was an exhortatory hymn in the sense of, "god is dead, we must revive him"?

On the contrary, it's you who has read too little of either Hegel or Nietzsche if you don't see the similarities. Nietzsche's style is superficially unlike Hegel's - one is verbose, the other 'witty' - but close reading shows the (quite shocking) similarities between the two. As Hegel writes at the end of the Philosophy of History, Spirit = the truly divine in this world (ie., not God, but man's own self-movement). God(s) are 'just' an un-self-conscious manifestation of Spirit; everything returns to man himself - this is the beginning of the Modern, which we are still experiencing today, and which was first conceived in the Phenomenology of Spirit. Of course, Nietzsche puts it far more crudely, but the main implication of the 'self-realisation of Spirit' - or what is the same, the 'man of Science'/the 'Don Juan of Knowledge' - is that everything is permitted, because man has realised himself, realised that knowledge is his own 'will to power'/ self-movement of Spirit.
Nietzsche only denied final states because the final state had been achieved in Hegel. Hegel's philosophy is the FIRST realisation that 'everything has happened' (= end of history), that the circle of Absolute Knowing has finally forged itself in this realisation, and that everything in that circle (for instance, Greek society) can now come again if we (Spirit/ will to power) will it.
I'll write a precis of the Phenomenology of Spirit and draw direct parallels with the individual works of Nieztsche, if you like.

The phrase "God is dead" was not invented by Vahanian, Nietzsche or Time, but first appears in an old Lutheran Good Friday hymn.
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:lpK_jH6pGPAJ:www.svu2000.org/issues/halik2.htm+hegel+%22God+is+dead%22&hl=en
Hegel related the sentence "God is dead", the expression of the desolation of modern man, to the event of the cross, on which the one who was both Man and God died. For Hegel, the cross is not just an event of the remote past, but it is a part of the "history of Being." The "death of God" is an inner moment of "God´s biography", the roads of God through history. Modern atheism is participation at the "Good Friday of history", an important but not the last stage of the history of the spirit.
Findlay's book on Hegel also mentions this fact. God is dead first appears for Nietzsche in Gay Science (1882) - we've killed God because we've subjected him to our values (ie., we've Christianised God - we've realised why a god that is 'inhumane' is for us no god at all anymore). Basically, that's why some Christians felt the pang that 'God is dead' when the Tsunami hit Asia. Of course, it's these very Christians who have 'killed' God by subjecting him to Spirit's demands.

On the contrary, it's you who has read too little of either Hegel or Nietzsche if you don't see the similarities.
I see similarities, but having no works of either before me at present, I can't review what struck me in Hegel as reminiscent of N. I did get the impression that the whole structure of Hegel's thought almost seemed a more eloquent, lengthy version of Nietzsche, up to a limited point.
Nietzsche's style is superficially unlike Hegel's - one is verbose, the other 'witty' - but close reading shows the (quite shocking) similarities between the two.
An overarching correspondence aside, my point is that Nietzsche, from what I have read in the Sammtliche Werke, was not much influenced by Hegel, or only in reaction to Hegel, as in his reaction to Darwinism.
Nietzsche only denied final states because the final state had been achieved in Hegel.
I don't see that Nietzsche took Hegel as a model in declaring e.g. that "man is an end". I won't deny a resemblance, only your claim of influence. There are resemblances - to go further afield - between N and Sade, Stirner, Marx, etc., the whole notorious list of psychotic Jews, but there is absolutely no evidence N read Sade or any of those Jews, and his reading of Hegel seems to have been mostly critical. I would hazard that N took more from Max Müller and Erwin Rhode's translations of Vedic literature, and Schopenhauer's exposition of the same, than from Hegel, in both of which are found the ideas you mention.
"In the history of the quest for knowledge the Germans are inscribed with nothing but ambiguous names, they have always brought forth only "unconscious" counterfeiters (—Fichte, Schelling, Schopenhauer, Hegel, Schleiermacher deserve this epithet as well as Kant and Leibniz; they are all mere veil makers [veil makers = Schleiermacher]—): they shall never enjoy the honor that the first upright spirit in the history of the spirit, the spirit in whom truth comes to judgment over the counterfeiting of four millennia, should be counted one with the German spirit."
Generally speaking, N's major objection to Hegel was premised on Hegel and Darwin exhibiting the same "dangerous thought": evolution. I don't have it before me now, unfortunately.

I'm sure to be in the extreme minority here, but these two books profoundly influenced me—I even consider them great books. Given Haley's statement of purpose, I believe he achieved it: I have always thought that Roots is a nigger Odyssey. As for X, his stance was at least more forthright and relative to our own than Nigger King Jr., whose promotion has seduced the world over. Aside from that, his book is valuable from a spiritual perspective as an engaging testimony to the mutation of the soul. Considering further that he did not begrudge Hitler his place, and knew the Jew, I think you are quite wrong in saying the book has been actually 'harmful'. If anything, more die-hard adherents to the doctrine of separation among niggers could only help us.

Why none of the horribly self-serving tomes by Henry Kissinger?
Or one of the door-stops by Ayn Rand?
Well, maybe this is why:
HUMAN EVENTS asked a panel of 15 conservative scholars and public policy leaders to help us compile a list of the Ten Most Harmful Booksof the 19th and 20th Centuries. Each panelist nominated a number of titles and then voted on a ballot including all books nominated. A title received a score of 10 points for being listed No. 1 by one of our panelists, 9 points for being listed No. 2, etc. Also, I noticed that there is an ad on the page for the 'Conservative Book Club.'

This is the first thing youve said I vehemently disagree with. funny you picked a bunch of my favorites. I like bach, like casteneda, and I really like Hesse. What ties them together? A strong Zennist senisibility.
Casteneda explores Tradition in the fullest Evolan sense of the word: ritual, exoteric/ esoteric distinction, initiation, hermetic ascent of the individual towards the ultimate Transcendent reality, and the way of the warrior.
Bach, explores intuition and the limits of reason, camraderie, and samadhi-- disciplined immersion of the self in the activity of the moment as a gateway to Transcendent reality.
Hesse. All these themes and more. I guess you dont agree with famous Chilean Hitlerist Andres Serrano that Hesse was a great. Reading his book "A Record of Two Friendships" right now about Hesse and Jung.
Sartre was not even that bad.

The best part of Der Steppenwolf is the window into the decadence of Weimar Germany: negro band, homo/bisexuality...blech.
Hesse wasn't hardcore to me, not drawing from the nebulous designation in the WN frame of reference, per se. I find Hesse to be Zen or Vedanta lite.
If you want Zen, by which I mean real Japanese, try Musashi or Kawabata. If you want no mysticism, no bullshit, often militant Vedanta, try Vivekananda.
Hmm of course I have read Go Rin No Sho and many other classics including the Hagakure and also a book by the famous monk Takuan. I forget the name of that one. And many books by Daisetz Suzuki , or rather works edited and compiled by him. I also have read a novel by Yasunari Kawabata, for school, but I dont remember much about that one.
I once skimmed a volume by or about Vivekananda, can't remember which. Generally, eastern spirituality of any stamp has never interested me. I am very skeptical of anything from beyond the Capsian.
Did you ever see the old Steppenwolf movie? The jazz sequences are twice as revolting.
I agree, Hesse was Vedanta-lite, as well as Jung- and Freud-lite. He did his best work when not trying to push this complex and by sticking to the German cultural milieu—Narziss und Goldmund comes to mind, aside from Der Steppenwolf and, my favorite, Unterm Rad. Demian goes overboard, though much of the book is priceless portraiture of the spirit of German youth before the decline.

In the book A Record of Two Friendships, by Miguel Serrano, about his conversations with Hesse and Jung, Serrano decried that Hesse had become popular among the hippies. He also said that Hesse's son had whored out the story to the movie and it was awful. I think this was in the preface. He also said something along the lines of what you did, about him being in the tradition of German Romantics.
The only Hesse I could never really bite into and finish was Glass Bead Game/ Magister Ludi. I started it at least five times and never progressed. The rest I gobbled up as a teenager, and have returned to at times later in life.

anyhow the number one shit-stirring book is not the Commie Manifesto but the Hebish Babylonian Talmud. It's the training manual for jews.

Well, it seems none of us could get into 'Glass Bead Game'. What a colossal bore that was. I stopped after the first ten pages. Otherwise I had the same experience; I read most of them in about a month. 'Steppenwolf' had the biggest impression owing to my personality—as Doppelhaken put it, I think, "byronic weltschmerz".
The movie wasn't entirely bad: Max von Sydow played Haller, so there was at least some acting merit, and I thought he looked enough like my image of Harry Haller. The script stuck to the novel for the most part, but necessarily focussed on the more explicit scenes, as nothing really internal could be portrayed. The production is abysmal, though it was made in the early '70s. On the whole though I would say it was as horrifying as Haller's Mozart via la radio.

BTW, a remake of the latter starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Bernie Mac will be forthcoming shortly. The jews sure know how to treat great literature: like a baby treats a diaper.
A friend & I used to sit around recasting the Old Testament into ebonics, though I suppose that wouldn't offend the yidn so much and would appeal to the "menti infermi" of Christians. Ultimately the only way to strike back would be a major Holohoax comedy. Or by wrapping a bunch of them in barbed-wired and shooting into it.
I think Peter Camenzind was Hesse's first, Unterm Rad second. I haven't read the former.

I have been thinking much of late about the "Ark of the Covenant." Basically, the Jews say that they had God Himself in this fancy little box with funny creatures set upon it in gold. Then they put this in a big tent. Then the Levites-- the guys with perfect vision and no crushed testicles-- mutilated penises ok though-- these special ultra-Jews had access. HMMM. And they wonder why people hate their guts? These fuckers think they OWN God. They think he was a freakin artifact of their goatherd existence. The entire Jew religion is utter blasphemy and I marvel anything good whatsoever has come out of it at all. I think this is part of the "mystery" of the incarnation, well stated by somebody: "how odd of God to choose the Jew." I think this is a Big Joke. The Jew is perhaps some sort of catalyst, like your kettleballs or something. The Jew must be overcome. When we finally get it together to extirpate this wicked vegetation root and branch, the Divine Gardener will say "well done. I knew you could do it."
Back to these Jew goatherd genocidialists wandering around Shittim or where-ever with their Tabernacle-Tent and God-box and their holy cutdicks. Does this remind you of Silas Marner, just a little? Hiding gold in a bag, putting it under his floorboards? God= Gold?
I wonder which was a bigger disaster sometimes, the translation of the Bible into the vernacular or the Reformation. I suppose one couldnt have happened without the other. If only the Roman Catholic Church had put the Hebish Scripture on the Index, then things might have worked out better.

Have you read the entire story of the Ark? Yes it was perverted by quarter Jew Harrison Ford when those mean ol Nazis tried to steal it and it is hidden in a government storage facility. However the actual story is funny, they stored the thing in the corner of someone’s living room for three years (I think that is the correct time it may have been a decade) and then basically bumbled every single attempt to correctly use the thing. David was fornicating when he should have been protecting the Ark. Then they dropped it and was punished for it. Then they stored it away and forgot about it. Finally the lost the thing altogether.
And they wonder why people hate their guts? These think they OWN God.
They don’t think they own him they think they are him. They want us to worship them not YAHWEH.
The entire Jew religion is utter blasphemy and I marvel anything good whatsoever has come out of it at all.
Often it is condemned in the NT especially in the book of Galatians.
I think this is part of the "mystery" of the incarnation, well stated by somebody: "how odd of God to choose the Jew."
There is a thought I have struggled with. Really I think he didn’t choose the Jews we see today. The ones we see today are half-breeds from Turkey and other places. The Jews of today took the Israelite OT scriptures and perverted them into the mess you see today. I really would like to have a time machine and go back to see what those people actually looked like. Our version is based on Hollywood movies. The first painting of Jesus made by the Roman Catholics (in their infancy) clearly showed him to be a white male with fair skin and brown hair.
I wonder which was a bigger disaster sometimes, the translation of the Bible into the vernacular or the Reformation.
The Reformation. Martin Luther may not have liked Jews but the disaster caused by Luther and Calvin is horrific. Without their ideology that God chose special people to be saved and we are not saved by works but grace only, the Jews could have never gotten a foot hold on the church like they did.
The doctrine that some people are chosen (predestined) allowed the Jews to set themselves up as the chosen ones.
Other than sprinkling, instruments, and their chain of command I have a great deal of respect for Catholics. If they would get back to the basics and stop importing groids to fill their seats and involving themselves in these political battles they could once again fill the seats with productive white people.
I should be Pope I could clear all this mess up in one year. First step: letting the priests get married.

heres a few that should be on the list:
-Man's Search for Meaning
by Viktor E. Frankl is among the most influential works of psychiatric literature since Freud. The book begins with a lengthy, austere, and deeply moving personal essay about Frankl's imprisonment in Auschwitz and other concentration camps for five years, and his struggle during this time to find reasons to live. The second part of the book, called "Logotherapy in a Nutshell," describes the psychotherapeutic method that Frankl pioneered as a result of his experiences in the concentration camps. Freud believed that sexual instincts and urges were the driving force of humanity's life; Frankl, by contrast, believes that man's deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose. "Our generation is realistic, for we have come to know man as he really is," Frankl writes. "After all, man is that being who invented the gas chambers of Auschwitz; however, he is also that being who entered those gas chambers upright, with the Lord's Prayer or the Shema Yisrael on his lips."
Night
Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel's wrenching attempt to find meaning in the horror of the Holocaust is technically a novel, but it's based so closely on his own experiences in Birkenau, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald that it's generally--and not inaccurately--read as an autobiography. Like Wiesel himself, the protagonist of Night is a scholarly, pious teenager racked with guilt at having survived the genocidal campaign that consumed his family. His memories of the nightmare world of the death camps present him with an intolerable question: how can the God he once so fervently believed in have allowed these monstrous events to occur? There are no easy answers in this harrowing book, which probes life's essential riddles with the lucid anguish only great literature achieves. It marks the crucial first step in Wiesel's lifelong project to bear witness for those who died.

The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide
Nazi doctors did more than conduct bizarre experiments on concentration-camp inmates; they supervised the entire process of medical mass murder, from selecting those who were to be exterminated to disposing of corpses. Lifton (The Broken Connection; The Life of the Self shows that this medically supervised killing was done in the name of "healing," as part of a racist program to cleanse the Aryan body politic. After the German eugenics campaign of the 1920s for forced sterilization of the "unfit,"it was but one step to "euthanasia," which in the Nazi context meant systematic murder of Jews. Building on interviews with former Nazi physicians and their prisoners, Lifton presents a disturbing portrait of careerists who killed to overcome feelings of powerlessness. He includes a chapter on Josef Mengele and one on Eduard Wirths, the "kind," "decent" doctor (as some inmates described him) who set up the Auschwitz death machinery. Lifton also psychoanalyzes the German people, scarred by the devastation of World War I and mystically seeking regeneration. This profound study ranks with the most insightful books on the Holocaust.

Never Again : The History of the Holocaust by MARTIN GILBERT
The almost unbelievable story of the Holocaust(!!), told by the authoritative Martin Gilbert, is augmented by firsthand accounts and poignant illustrations. Owing much to "those who have assembled the basic Documentation,", his text is easy to follow and matter-of-fact, allowing the horror of the events to speak for itself. Gilbert's chronological narrative captures, in a tragically compelling way, the dark progress of the gathering evil--from a background of "century after century" of anti-Semitic persecution to the Nuremberg Laws and the death camps. Never Again powerfully counteracts the dehumanizing nature of Nazi extermination. As the statistics "represent real people," names are put to faces in photographs and the stories of individuals (some now household names) are told. Ending with coverage of survivors' postwar lives and the war crimes trials, which have continued practically into the new century, the book gives past events a closer reality. Peppered with "acts of individual and collective bravery," Never Again is also a reminder that hope was never extinguished.
As one of the first German books on the Holocaust stated, "Only if we come to terms with it and understand the lessons of those years, can we free ourselves of the legacy of Hitlerite barbarism." Completed by an extensive bibliography and separate indices of people and places, Never Again makes a superbly lucid and accessible contribution toward creating and maintaining that understanding. --Karen Tiley, Amazon.co.uk
From Booklist
Historian Gilbert has reworked the scattered records and witnesses to the implacable plot to destroy the European Jews into an album evidently directed at readers largely oblivious to what happened. He arranges the principal events of the Holocaust into illustrated, two-page layouts per topic, such as Kristallnacht. With the start of the war, a dark cloak enveloped what the Nazis were doing, pierced by rumours and, rarely, by escapees from the death camps, such as Rudolf Vrba from Auschwitz in mid-1944. It was his report that activated the debate whether to bomb Auschwitz or not (see review of The Bombing of Auschwitz, a book that contains an essay by Gilbert, in this section), but, as is Gilbert's wont, he confines his text to noting the fact of the debate, implying that analysis of controversies in Holocaust historiography belong in the weighty tomes of the Raul Hilbergs and Daniel Goldhagens. A perfect authorial judgment, that, because this volume introduces the crime to a new generation, so that it knows of the atrocities and the seemingly futile acts of defiance taken, in the words of Judah Tenenbaum, "for three lines in the history books."

level one
The Bible should be in Latin just like it was in "the good ole days." Then every insane fool that can read English would not have it to justify his crazy fantasies.
level two
The Old Testament is one tale of horrors after another. The New Testament turns the Old on its ear. Taken apart, either one can be disastrous. You have the murderous cohesiveness and parasitism of the "Chosenites" in the Old, and the apparent passivity of the Redeemer in the New. Apart, one seems insanely aggressive, and the other insanely weak.
However, taken together, with proper discipline and education, they can be something of a Golden Mean between the particularism of the Hebe tribe and the metaphysical Catholicity of the Christian idea. I recognize that this "Golden Mean" is all but lost to 95-99% of Christians.
level three
There is no substitute for proper Aryan education, discipline, and a social-cultural hierarchy committed to the survival of our kind. No book, no idea, no nothing can do the job of leadership but living people.
And at the root that is one of the worst outcomes of the Reformation: always the White man looks for a new idea, a new formula, a new interpretation, a new "gnosis" that will "set him free." No. What's needed is not new ideas, but the right ones executed properly.

What you are saying is that the Bible is incapable of teaching people. But to avoid facing that you turn against the first protestants, who in true White fashion wanted to find out the truth for themselves instead of having a wealthy religious elite control them.
Are you seriously suggesting that we should even today own Bibles we can't read, and go to church to listen for hours to priests purposely preach to us in a language we can't understand?
Christianity must be the only religion where the religious leaders have actually tried to hide its holy scripture from its followers! Never has there been a stronger proof of a religion's inherently flawed nature.
Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe WNs should do the same; forbid followers to read Mein Kampf, My Awakening, Who Rules America? and other important writings, and tell them "We can't allow you to learn on your own, stupid goyim. You must listen to us and believe what we say without proof." That oughta be a stable system.

AE, this is one of my favorite quotes by Hesse....
"If what matters in a person's existance is to accept the inevitable conciously, to taste the good and bad to the full and to make for oneself a more individual unaccidental and inward destiny alongside ones external fate, then my life has been neither empty nor worthless......"
from "Gertrude" by Hermann Hesse
By the way,
Did anyone add anything by Spock? He is the reason we have so many spoiled little assholes running around who never got spankings when they were kids.
Oh and was Night the book by Wiesel in which he talks about geysers of blood shooting in the air?

Review:
When in my 30s, after having read several of Hesse's novels, I attempted to read The Glass Bead Game. I couldn't get past the first 50 pages. I was unprepared to accept Hesse as a humourist and satirist. Now, approaching 60 and having learned not to take life or Hesse so seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and consider it Hesse's greatest. A mature Hesse, who understood life's ironies, wrote The Glass Bead Game for a mature audience, who could laugh at life's ambiguities.
The Glass Bead Game is comprised of a novel, 13 poems, and 3 short stories. I think the reader would enjoy the novel more by reading the book in reverse order, starting with the three short stories: The Rainmaker, The Father Confessor, and The Indian Life. The underlying theme of the stories is that the forfeiture of self, or self-interest, leads to redemption or an awakening.
The poems superbly unite the novel's cultural, spiritual, and mental perspectives. Hesse's best known poem "Stages" is included. Here's a four line excerpt:
"If we accept a home of our making,
Familiar habit makes for indolence.
We must prepare for parting and leave-taking
Or else remain the slaves of permanence."
The novel is set in the future and located in the sequestered province of Castalia. This is a world of academia that consists of theory, analysis, interpretation, and debate - all elements of "the game". Absent from Castalia are action, creativity, originality, and experiment.
