There are different ways to look at it. I try to edit VNN so that the reader wants to eat virtually everything we serve. Ie, good ingredients, well cooked, tastefully presented, so to speak.

But that level of control is misplaced in a forum. In a forum I the user want a few iron poles of rules, and the rest open-free-wild. I don't need some cunt -- male or female - getting between me and what people are saying, and what i'm saying to them. THAT is how most people feel, and what most people want. You know, the CSPAN philosophy, more or less. Open the camera, put on a title and let the people here what's being said. That's what I want. Not some self-important moderator deciding what I'm arguments I'm allowed to make, and what terms I must code them in. FUCK THAT. If you read through the different threads, you'll see that, just as in a high-school lunch room, people and types naturally segregate themselves according to intelligence and interests. That is far better than having some asshole moderator vetting every single post before it appears.

I judge VNNF's success not by the bad stuff on it, but by the good stuff on it that would not exist otherwise. By that standard it is already a success, and should get even better.

I would personally like to see the weight of discussion shift toward matters intellectual -- conservatism with balls, as it were. But I will never give up on the
crudeness and the vitality in order to get the weak middle. I will make something so good that the weak middle is forced to summon whatever strength it does have and come to me. It works with VNN, and it will work with the Forum too. Wait, where did I say I believed they mixed with Gypsies? I think it was just an effect of the climate and possibly mixing with Pontic (Med) Russians.
