Mrs Michelle Duggar, 39, just delivered her 16th child.

But she and her husband, Mr Jim Bob Duggar, are already thinking of having more children.

'We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some, she will accept them,' he said.

The Duggars' latest addition, daughter Johannah, was born on Tuesday.

Mr Duggar, 40, a real-estate salesman and former Arkansas state representative, said her birth was especially exciting as it was the first time in eight years they have had a girl.

Mrs Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.

Their family includes two sets of twins.

The Duggars, who home-school all their children, are building a new 650 sq m home to house the growing family.

It is expected to be ready before Christmas and will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family in the US next May. - AP

Yeah, this family was already on t.v. once, I believe the TLC channel. At that time the couple had 14 children and she was pregnant with her 15th child. She was pregnant pretty much her entire adult life.

It makes my contribution to the gene pool dwindle by comparison.
