My purpose in producing these fractal images was to create something containing the svastika motif that the average Joe Sixpack/Sally SoccerMom could look at and say "oooh, isn't that pretty?", thereby eroding in some small way their inculcated mental resistance to the symbol.

Removing the negative connotations associated with the svastika in our society will be no easy task, but the potency of the symbol as a political and spiritual insignia makes it too valuable to abandon. Also, the symbol is a part of Aryan cultural heritage (and many other cultures) and use of it should not be surrendered to taboo, as a matter of principle.

I'm playing around with ways of getting the designs to spell out words and slogans/messages at the moment, but it's quite hard to get some of the letters in the alphabet to fit nicely into a grid. I'll be sure to post a link when they're done.

FYI, I'm not asserting any copyright or ownership over these images, so if anyone wants to modify/recolourise them or incorporate them into their own designs or graphics then feel free. :)

I can't remember, but I think Rand had something for Spock, and there was a sub-current for Uhura-Chekov. But in Poser, you can apply textures to stuff. I was wondering if I can use those fractal textures you made on clothes or other props (Perhaps a car's paint!).

A lot of Muslim Cloth is like that. Ricky Martinez found out when he was in a Palestinian picture. During the midievel times the wealthy europeons would wear clothes or have blankets made out of Muslim silks, and they had Allah Akbar or such written on it in stylized Arabic. Apparently even high-level roman catholic church leaders wore clothes like that, too.

What program are you using to make your fractal designs? Are they tile-able? I was wondering on that since I dl the small jpg's. I think that in Poser that it will tile it over the whole surface applied to in the Material Room, but in post-work with Photoshop I'd have to turn it into a tile if say using the design as a background.

I wrote a small C++ app to generate the swastika fractals as BMP files. I wrote some scripts in GIMP (www.gimp.org) to load in the BMPs and convert them into animated GIFs to make the fractal animations on my site.

The fractals are not tileable as is (because the swastika branches from a single point), but you could always just put it inside a square and tile that. If you want more info PM me.

I remember also someone gave me a program some time ago to preview a part of the DNA, and the shape was swastika like too (unfortunately I can't get this program again)

folks may have noticed this design in "Greek key" which is a decorative design that was well known and popular for centuries in the west until WW2 and since then has been relegated to the ghetto of Greek restaurants.

I was at a nice old theatre built in the 1920s, recently restored to public use, and there was just this kind of swastika-based Greek key all around the interior door arches carved in marble.

That's interesting. It's amazing how often it crops up in nature and mathematics. I remember an article on VNN a few weeks ago about scientists who found out how to change the polarisation of light using a filter with millions of miniature swastika aperatures. Also, there are sections of the Mandelbrot set that form a swastika shape.
