Can someone please explain how? I see the 'insert image' icon, but that opens up "explorer user prompt" and "enter the text to be formatted." I've tried entering file names, but nothing posts.

To insert an image you need to provide an http link, not a filename.
If you are linking to an image on another site, you can just copy the URL of the image (provided that the site allows hotlinking).
If the image is one that you have created yourself, you will need to host it somewhere on the Internet. www.photobucket.com provides a free image hosting service (it's the one I use when posting images here). You just create an account and manage an online "album". The interface provides you with http links that you can just cut and past from your photobucket page into the prompt that appears when you try and insert an image.
Alternatively, you can attach the image files as attachments, but they won't appear embedded in the post, they will appear as icons and the person viewing the post will have to open them up separately.

http://reg.imageshack.us/en/faq/g2.gif How do I upload images?
Visit ImageShack® (http://imageshack.us/). Select browse to find an image that you want to upload. Select an image, press OK/Open, and then press the "Host it!" button. After a short while (depending on your internet connection and image size), your image will upload and you will see a number of boxes with linking code for your uploaded image. Depending on your use for the image, use any one of these linking codes.
I use the direct link to image, use your copy and paste function, the deal is Odin, you have to "host" the image by uploading it up to cyberspace, then you copy the code in the little pop up box and it sends the message to VNN about where the image is and sticks it up in your post, you dont use your file name in the VNN pop up box, you use it at imageshack.com, in THEIR little file up load blank space
http://www.imageshack.us/
sometimes they dont like what you upload though and block you for a while, usually a reboot cures that if you have a dynamic IP address, or else use different service, search for " free pic hosting"
hope this helped hon

This is all very easy using Mozilla Firefox. You can download this open source, highly-rated, and extremely versatile web-browser HERE (http://www.mozilla.com/).
Feel free to keep your lousy ad-delivery, spyware, malware, bugware, mass market pos known as Internet Explorer. That's your business.
Now, you can import all your bookmarks from IE to Firefox with press of a button. Just look in the bar under tools or somewhere, I'm sure you're smart enough to figure that out.
The thing about Firefox is it comes with an "image viewer". I used to have all kinds of trouble posting images using IE until some other VNNer told me about Firefox.
Now, using Firefox, you find your image. Then hover your mouse pointer over the image, right click, and select "view image". (You may actually need to download the image viewer but I'm pretty sure it's standard with the browser.) After doing this, the image you selected will appear alone in a new window.
Then, you click on the navigation bar to highlight the info therein. Then, right click and select "copy".
Once you have done this, you go back to your forum post box and paste the info you just copied. All that is required at this point are "tags". On the front side of the info you just pasted put "". Disregard the quotation marks, of course. After the info put "". The forward slash is the most important thing here. All end tags must follow their corresponding tags with this forward slash.
The important thing is that IE does not allow you to manipulate images nearly as easily and effectively as Firefox. You'll just have to see for yourself. There's really no way to explain it other than that.
So, download Firefox, use it to browse, find images, right click on images, select "view image", copy image nav bar (http://info.info/info), go to posting area, paste info, surround with tags, and you're in pictures. Any questions?

that only works though if your image is on the internet right, or you can right click and use "copy image location" when you use firefox, but you cant use FF image dealie with stuff on your PC can you? if so please tell me how! thanks
This is true as far as I know. I for one have never attempted to post an image from my hard drive onto a web page. I have numerous images on my hard drive that I could use FF to "view" and therefore copy and paste to a forum such as this one.
But the key is the ability to view and manipulate images. FF is the answer in this case. Notice that your Microsoft OS is an "explorer" in your task bar.
I cannot answer your question. I wouldn't recommend "copy image location" rather I would say right click, view image, and then copy the info in the nav bar. That's all I have.
