What is your favorite type of holster?
All of the different types plastic leather and synthetic out there it is tough to choose which one is the best. Personally I have 2 favorites. I prefer a leather shoulder holster while a synthetic side holster. My favorite is the tactical holster, I am currently working on a modification to them and hopefully the local shop here will make the thing for me.
I don’t like leather side holsters or synthetic shoulder holsters. For some reason they just are not comfortable for me.
Here is a basic rundown of the most common holsters.
Shoulder holster
Fanny pack holster
Quickdraw holster
I forget the name of these but they are basically two strips of leather about 2-3 inches wide and the gun slides between them. It attaches to your belt. I think they may be called paddle style as well.

Plain holster
cover trigger guard or not
Cross draw holster
Ankle holster
Bellyband holsters
Concealable holsters
These come in all forms, from a simple piece of leather with a clip that just clips on your belt or your pants to pager holsters, which conceal a gun in the pants. They come in fanny packs and other assortments. The problem with most of these is they make the gun difficult to get to if you need it immediately.
Pocket holsters
Paddle holsters
These have a paddle shaped back with a magnet that you can just slip on your belt and slip back off.
Ghetto style
This involves just flopping the gun in your pants or pocket. The only time this is acceptable is if you get up in the middle of the night and just put your gun there while you go outside to check a noise.
Belt buckle holster
For those miniature 5-shot 22 pistols
In the shoulder holster there are two types the type that goes straight down and the type that has the handle your gun pointing out towards the front. Then there are the leather holsters and the synthetic ones.

Western style holster
The first of the tactical style holsters, as the gun would be positioned beside your palm as it would hang by your side for easy access.

Here is one I saw recently. Looks functional on paper but not quite the safest thing in the world. Personally I prefer the snap button to the spring or Velcro. You thumb hits the snap simultaneously while you are drawing your weapon so it doesn’t add any time to your quick draw. Also it is very sturdy and safe when you are carrying your weapon.
