There's probably no way Mars was ever mined, but so what? As fodder for science fiction writers of the future, this is gold. Look at an image long enough it tells a story. Mars mines are lots more fun than cloud castles.

Good question. The photos are real puzzlers.

There's a book by a fellow named George Leonard called Somebody Else is on the Moon, a paperback classic from the 70s. Leonard snagged a ton of NASA shots from the Apollo program and subjected them to intense analysis. The book is a smorgasborg of what he found.

There's boulders rolling UP out of craters, lots of what looks like equipment of some sort, hangars of some sort, and what appears to be construction work going on in phases. Even that's not enough, astronomers noticed all this sort of thing decades before anyone landed on the moon. They still refer to it as LTP, lunar transient phenomena. There's no explanation of what it might actually be.

Mars is probably worse. I'd like to think there's lots of natural effects elsewhere in the solar system that we won't understand till we go out there and see for ourselves. But that takes money and Bush is spending it all on wars for Israel, so we might never know what's happening. Frustrating.
