As many may have noticed, This Just In has been experiencing problems all day due to a software glitch. As we sort out the problem this forum can now be populated and past posts and threads will be returned.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Stan, are the rumors about your leaving VNN true? If so, why?

I heard that too. I am not leaving VNN. I only just gave up administration of the forum. But with the latest problems today, I have thrown my hat back in to help out with technicalities. I don't want anything to do with managing users though. I leave that to the professionals.

Naturally, I turned to the new VNNF vbulletin admin., Geoff Beck, via PM. But he quickly informed me (and these are direct quotations):Also, I stay away from the management of Vbulletin...I also try to stay out of forum administration...That kinda threw me, cause I wondered: "How can the head forum admin. stay away from admin. and the management of vbulletin?" It seemed a contradiction in terms and title-- the admin. who is not an admin. That is to say-- just WHO IS running VNNF's vbulletin?
Uhh, I was wondering-- when you are not working on vbulletin on an emergency ad hoc basis as with this current "This Just In" problem, who can users turn to to solve their software glitches? I know it's not AE, cause I voice talked with him at length today.
Is their a secret admin. out there somewhere? Surely someone has the straight and plain answers. Who would that be?

You needing a pic posting quota over other regular users is not a glitch. It's standard.

AE is admin of babysitting, and under him all mods.
GB, and again me are trying to tackle updating the software which now includes fixing things gone wrong because of past database mismanagement and backup.

User gripes: AE & Mods
Tech Issues: Me or GB

Yes there is and I can't say because that's not my place to do so. It's not R-Mac if that is what your implying. He left. You want to know, you ask Alex. I have already given the jews enough info for tonight.

Strange, usually with vBulletin software glitches(and there are few) it is forum wide and not contained to one thread.
But hey, what the fuck do I know.

It's also not just the attachments. As I told you in Skype chat, my friend, a well known VNNer, tried to log out of my account and onto his and was blocked. Then, just prior to that, there were the longstanding "password" issues, and we know who "made suggestions" as to how those could be manipulated.
Back to the attachment limit. That could be upped for everybody across the board without any problem. It'd take one click. Attorney Flynn said that his Lefkow/Bart Ross pdf court dockets were lost from the 56,000 hit (largest ever) VNNF thread. Even AE thought that a shame and appreciated Flynn's ballsiness in getting those pdf documents from where he did. I wouldn't doubt that they cost him money too. So I understand that you just don't want to make the click to up the attachment levels for all users. Just as the pic limit went from 3 to 10, it's a "one quick click" process.
You say you and Geoff Beck handle the tech issues; that we should bring same to one of you. Well, I just published in my last post Geoff Beck's response. That leaves you. Therein is the clever conundrum.

So THAT's why I can't follow up on the "Well Girl marries Mextizo" thread that I contributed to yesterday. ):-(

I see that the third annual VNN archives horror story is here, right on time. First Bitch Tits Bill, then White Devolution. Now this software glitch.
It's pretty damn shitty that this subforum got dropped. Last Google snapshot shows 8,207 threads and 64,470 posts. That's a lot of material to lose.

I hope that the staff will be able to fix this. As a last resort, if nothing else works, it should be feasible to migrate the lost threads/subforum from the most recent database backup while maintaining everything else that's currently online. You might have to handwrite some SQL. Last time I looked at VB source, I have to say I found the database structure to be pretty complicated, so any migration script might not be entirely trivial. I would strongly recommend that you set up a test server complete with the current DB and execute a "rehearsal" so to speak a couple times before you attempt my suggestion. Virtual machines are highly useful in cases like this.
Best of luck.

Is the content of the the former This Just In forum lost completely, or are you all just having trouble getting it back online? I thought I understood that someone had a backup of the forum. There were some pretty good discussions going on re: the USZOG economy, and other things. Can someone give us a status update/prognosis?
Also, if you need Roger to come back in temporarily and fix it, someone please, just suck it up and ask him. I imagine he'd happily help out, and we're all comrades here.

There is currently a program underway to recover the lost info. There is 11 gb of information to sift through to find what is needed, it is being labbed. It is being dealt with though so have some patience and hope for the best.

Rest assured, the admins are doing their best to get everything fixed up. Mike is absolutely correct in noting that vBulletin has a complicated database structure, so it is important to allow the admins to take the time they need to do things properly.

I don't mean to nitpick, but exactly how much longer might this take?
