A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy shot an Air Force security officer late Sunday night after the airman told the deputy that he was in the military and "on your side." A videotape of the incident, which was shot on a residential Chino street about 10:30 p.m., was of poor quality, showing only a silhouette of the deputy and the face of the man who was shot — illuminated by the deputy's flashlight.

But the tape appears to show the deputy opening fire as the man was trying to comply with the officer's apparent order to stand up.

Senior Airman Elio Carrion, 21, had been riding as a passenger in a Corvette that was involved in a brief, high-speed chase with the deputy that reached speeds of 100 mph before the Corvette crashed into a fence, authorities said.

The videotape, shot by Chino resident Jose Luis Valdes, shows Carrion sprawled on the ground and repeatedly telling the deputy, "I'm on your side."

The deputy then seems to shout, "Get up!" after which Carrion appears to lean forward. "I'm going to get up, all right?" he says.

The deputy then fires his gun three or four times from about five feet away. "Shut … up, you don't get up …!" he shouts.

That was crazy! I still can't imagine why he shot the guy 3 times.

It was dark and he was dealing with a spic who was funny enough to assert that they were on the same side after a 100mph chase and wreck. The spic's macho response-- something like "You want me get up? Huh? I'll get up!" (whatever it was) with the dark was a bad combo.

what will the cop say?

"As he started to get up, his right hand was on the ground, and his left hand went around behind his back as if to pull a weapon out of his waistband. I was in fear of my life and as trained I fired on him to stop what I thought was a threat to my life."

Watch his left hand… from what I can see it looks like he reached near his jacket. His right hand stays on the ground to help him up. His left hand crosses over his body to help himself up. It is possible that from where the deputy was standing that it may have looked like he was reaching for something.

It is somewhat perplexing though. From what I know of police procedure the cop should have made him lie flat on his belly instead of standing up. A stop after a chaise is always very tense. You have lots of adrenalin in your veins; that alone has led to many mistakes.

I'm not sure that shooting a spic is ever a mistake. It might be the right thing to do, even if you have to lie about why you did it.

A spic in a US military uniform is an infiltrator who has achieved a substantial degree of social penetration; he remains a racial enemy and is not an American.

I like the part about "I'm on your side" after leading them on a 100-mph chase.

What AE said is correct. But that department is going to get sued up the ying-yang. I know a trigger-happy nut who did the same thing.

Just remember this cop would have prefered to shoot a White man. Less hassle that way.
"Law Enforcement" is just a gang now-a-days.

What's a mexican doing in a Corvette?

Don't they drive pick-ups, with lawn equipment on them?

I don't think I'd recognize a mexican without a leaf blower attached to his back! :D

A news report I saw showed the video, and the Mestizo was saying something like, "I've been doing airforce security longer than you've been a cop. I've been to fucking Iraq." or something similar to that, with a few more expletives.

It's not a good idea to smart-off to a police officer late at night during a traffic stop. I wouldn't expect much more from a Mestizo, however.

Sounded like the cop was an affirmative action hire also.

Exactly, I'm not going to lose any sleep over the spic that was shot, but this gutless, nerveless, pig-cop would have shot a white man just as quickly.
