Skinheads Emerging in Growing NumbersFebruary 6, 2006 - Watch-dog groups like the Anti-Defamation League say, once again, Neo-Nazis are emerging in increasing numbers, recruiting alienated youth who get sucked in through a culture of dress, tattoos, boots and music and then end up spreading hate and violence.
At a recent skinhead concert in Harrisburg, the group "Those Opposed" was on stage when guest vocalist "Nazi Mike" decided to honor Adolph Hitler and the Third Reich:
Nazi Mike: "I Want to open this song with some words. Let's take it back to the 1930's when we were strong, some words from the Furor."
Without missing a beat, Nazi Mike then broke into German, reciting a speech by Hitler, ending it in that old infamous way:
Nazi Mike: Sig hail, sig hail.
They wear t-shirts preaching hate and violence, some even wear boots with swastikas molded right into the soles or display large swastika flags. Who are they?
Barry Morrison/Anti-Defamation League: "They find an opportunity to scapegoat minorities, immigrants, Jews, blacks for their problems."
Daryle Lamont Jenkins/One People's Project: "You have a lot of folks who are just straight out of their minds to begin with."
Daryle Jenkins of the watchdog group, One People's Project, points to Walter Dille, a member of an Atlantic City skinhead group. Dille has been charged with the murder of an African American woman in Hamilton Township.
Authorities say they still don't know the motive but point out Dille didn't even know Cindy Cade, a mother of two. He allegedly just shot her in the head as she was stepping out of her car to buy movie tickets.
On his personal profile on the web, Action News found some disturbing images of Dille. In one he's holding a gun and cash with a caption stating: "back in business". Other photos show more weapons and ammunition and among his listed interests, he states: "Making Jesus sad and Satan happy."
Daryle Lamont Jenkins/One People's Project: "You have to say that there is more going on with these individuals that the desire to create the 4th Reich or whatever."
Barry Morrison/Anti-Defamation League: "They are, for the most part, alienated youth. Youth who don't feel they're being accepted for who they are, but feel that they can't find constructive outlets."
Morrison says what's disturbing is the hateful lyrics in the music fueled by alcohol has led to an increasing number of violent acts.
Barry Morrison: "Over the last several years there were roughly 85 criminal acts in which Neo-Nazis have been engaged, some 17 of them have involved murder or attempted murder or manslaughter."
And Morrison says these groups are once again on the rise.
Morrison: "We're seeing a resurgence and also more of a tendency towards violence for a number of reasons. One is because of the fact there are many alienated youth. Secondly, many youth tend to flock to the Internet and they are exposed to hateful ideas."
Tuesday the Anti-Defamation League will be releasing some disturbing findings on Neo-Nazi skinhead groups across the Delaware Valley. Officials say many may be surprised but should also be forewarned about what's going on with these groups.
