Police Investigate Accusations At Kid-Targeted Restaurant

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police are investigating disturbing accusations at a popular children's hangout on the city's northwest side.
Some parents said employees have been inappropriately touching children at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.
Three police reports have been filed since October 2005. In each of the complaints, parents said their children have been either groped or harassed by a restaurant employee.
Police said they are still investigating the incidents, but at least one parent said she wants to see action taken against the employee, RTV6's Ericka Flye reported.
Mother Demands Action
Latrice Brown took her daughter to the Chuck E. Cheese on West 38th Street for the child's ninth birthday. She said her daughter was looking forward to playing with Chuck E., a mouse character.
Brown said the party turned frightening when the person dressed in the mouse costume groped her daughter.
"He got behind her, and my son was standing there, and he was like, 'He's behind you,' and he started kind of rubbing her and stuff," Brown said.
Each of the three separate reports described alleged inappropriate conduct or contact involving a child at the same restaurant location.
"We're still very much in the beginning stages trying to determine if there is enough evidence, or basically, what the story is," said Indianapolis police Sgt. Judy Phillips.
In one police report, a child said an employee offered her tokens to go to a back room with him and told her to keep it a secret. In another report, a girl said a man dressed as Chuck E. thrust his pelvis on her.
Brown said she was told that the person in the costume accused of the inappropriate contact is mentally challenged.
"I said, 'Well, why is he in a Chuck E. Cheese uniform out here interacting with kids?'" Brown said. "It upsets me."
Brown insisted that her daughter is shaken because of the incident. She wants someone to be held accountable.
Chuck E. Cheese representative Brenda Holloway, from the company's corporate office, released a statement.
"Police are handling these cases and will investigate them completely. We take these allegations very seriously, and will address them appropriately," the statement read.
Holloway told RTV6 that the employee who allegedly asked a child to go to the back of the store is no longer employed there.
The worker that was in costume is still employed, pending the outcome of the investigation. Restaurant officials said that employee does not work around the children anymore. No charges have been filed in any of the cases.
