I wanted to join this forum after viewing some posts by Heather and now she's dissapeared. She explained the difficulties of coping with the boredom of being a staying at home mom with children.

I ran into deep financial problems and desperately tried to find ways to overcome this by using my laptop, so far I have joined this group http://www.moms-online.info which was only about a week ago and they have been a great help so it's looking good. Anyway I want to share my experience with others and maybe get some feedback, I'm struggling at the moment and really need to make a few more dollars, has anyone seen or heard of moms-online?

You have to be careful sometimes these can be scams. What exact would you be doing all day if they don't have you doing these things?

NO selling
NO large investment
NO billing or complicated paperwork
NO inventory
NO need to deliver products
NO financial risk

Sounds like you could end up with a stuffing envelopes job.

You might look at billing patients for doctors from your home. I had a friend that did this and referred it to me a couple of years ago.

Knowledge and Skills Needed to Start the Business

As a medical billing professional, you will provide the following services:

Preparing either electronic or paper claims to insurance companies, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and third party insurance's, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Great West, etc.

Entering patient information into the software

Mailing patients’ statements

Posting payments

Following-up on all unpaid insurance claims, as well as appeals and denials
Conducting "soft" collection on non-paying patients (e.g. making phone calls and sending out past due statements)

NPR was talking today about how many call centers, rather than being offshored to India, are dispersing via home based call center employees. They need a DSL line and the time to answer calls, that's it. That sounds interesting.

Good thing it's late winter -- are you living on land? Can you do a garden on that land? It will be good for your kids, and save you money. And you aren't answering to any boss.

If you don't own land, you can join a CSA. try to get a "work-share" so you don't have to pay. Your kids can help you with the work-share too. here's where to find a CSA (community supported agriculture) farm near you:

If you can grow an acre or more on your own land, that's enough for your family year-round, with some extra to sell. Good luck with that!
