Quebec to adopt anti-racism policy after consulting blacks, minister says

MONTREAL (CP) - The Quebec minister responsible for cultural communities says the province will adopt a policy to combat racism and discrimination.
It's one of several measures promised today by Lise Theriault following public consultations with Quebec's black communities last fall. The minister also plans to get business leaders to promote Quebec's ethnocultural diversity and set up actions to support entrepreneurship in black communities.
A task force report says racism, racial discrimination and racial profiling have had a real impact on access to jobs and other issues like youth crime and school dropout.
It is also critical of the way the Quebec Human Rights Commission operates.
The report was prepared after eight town hall forums were held in five major centres, including Montreal and Quebec City.
