View Full Version : Question: should VNNF add "censored" forum?

It's been suggested there's demand for a "censored" forum. Not for censoring the whole forum, which is and will always be a free-speech forum, but for one forum that is comparatively heavily moderated/censored for politeness - not ideas. I'd like to get your reaction. If there's enough interest, we'll do it. Again, this would be a forum with very little to no cursing, slurring, flaming -- just polite arguments and discussions. Unlike other forums where politeness is used to censor arguments feminists, jews, and liberals don't like, this forum would be civil and free, rather than civil and censored.

Let me know,

A.

I support the suggestion. The debates on VNN-Forum are often slightly a bit too pubescent for my taste.

In addition to the current Vnnf un-censored free-for-all Madhouse! It would be nice to have a place where sanity and reason could prevail in an atmosphere of common decency, free from vulgar, profane, and sarcastic ad-hominem attacks. This of course would be a good place for those offended by foul language.

I personally like the free for all of VNN. Its nice to have some REAL everyday language. :) Anyway..if alot of people want it...I guess you could do it (well its your server LOL). Have a Main Discussion (spicy) and Main Discussion (lite). The spicy would be the way it is right now and a lite to be the care bear version.

Oh well its your decision because you own VNN. :)

Georgie's going to have to quit school to keep up with that job! Looking at the pattern of many threads here, especially opp forum threads, I don't see how you'll enforce it (without someone sacrificing an inordinate amount of time).

I would think that a script would be added to automatticaly filter out any smutty language.

Personally, I like the idea of a censored forum.

Ok, we're going to go ahead with 1 what I call "Civil Forum." Argue whatever you like, but no dumb pics, cursing, flaming - you know what I mean, and don't pretend you don't. Of course, this will in no way change VNNF being an overall free speech forum, and you can continue to post what you want everywhere else. And any member is allowed to post in the Civil Forum, even antis. Just keep it polite. Per Heinlein, pretend your interlocutor is bigger than you, and armed, and you're standing face to face. That will help you strike the right tone.

Now...Anybody want to volunteer to moderate a "Civil Forum"?

Franco has volunteered to moderate part-time, and we have accepted his offer.

Two moderators would probably be enough. I might do a little myself, if needed, but I'd prefer someone else take it on. I will wait two days for someone to respond, and then create the forum on Sunday. This might be a good project for someone who wanted to lead discussions in a certain direction, as well as someone who can keep his head, and a civil board.

Great to hear Franco has volunteered. I believe he will do an excellent job.
Thank-you Alex for your attentiveness and willingness to allow your forum to mature and be all that it was intended to be. I will look forward with eager anticipation to the continual bettering of this forum. The new improved Vnnf, a place where intelligent and sincere seekers of truth can engage in thoughtful discussion debating the best solutions for the problems that confront us all. The new Vnnf for mature adults, an idea who's time has come, finally!!

Good idea, Alex. I would love to start referring my friends to this forum and now it seem like I may be able to bring many new posters here.

How about removing posts that are nothing more than personal attacks and putting them in a forum titled, bitch and whine, or something like that.
Often a good topic degrades into a flame war and the original purpose is lost in the B.S.
I don't think this would be censorship, but keeping the thread on topic.

Great idea -- move all whines and bitches and smears to a certain area within the forum.

You could simply move all of the posts that dont belong in the Care Bear Main Discussion to the regular Spicy Main Discussion.
