York Region police accuse a couple of burgling businesses like it was their job, averaging three to five break-ins per night and putting in enough overtime to grab $500,000 worth of loot.

Even impending parenthood didn't slow down the alleged thieves who — over a few months starting early this year — hit 65 companies in the industrial area near Woodbine Ave., Leslie St. and Highway 7, said Det. Const. Jeff Bright.

"This was their job. They put a lot of time and effort into it and they used electronic devices to see if police were coming."

The man and pregnant woman are accused, with a third person still at large, of breaking into units that had no alarms or were vacant.

The thieves would then smash through a wall and into the adjoining building — being very careful not to set off the alarm system — before grabbing the goods and heading off to their next target, Bright said. Police say the diligent bandits quickly amassed a small fortune in cosmetics, jewellery, computer equipment, eyewear and even wedding dresses.

"They stole anything that had market value," Bright said. "Anything they could sell, they would steal."

Police formed a team of a dozen officers, hoping to nab the thieves after noticing the similar burglaries rapidly coming one after the other. "We weren't seeing an end to it so we had to get out there and solve it," Bright said.

On Aug. 15, investigators raided a Scarborough home where they said they found a stash of stolen property.

Guo Wei (David) Wu, 38 and Xue Fei (Michelle) Zhao, 31, both of Scarborough, each face 65 counts of break and enter.

Other charges against them include possession of stolen property and assaulting a peace officer.

I wonder if they can be deported for not being totally honest with their intentions of immigrating into Canada with immigration officials?
