Police Probe Markham Murder

Police in York Region are searching for a suspect after a man was gunned down in Markham.
Shots rang out at a strip mall at 3636 Steeles Avenue East, near Warden, just after 10pm Friday. Authorities found the victim, said to be in his 30s, sprawled on the sidewalk outside a local restaurant after a witness called 9-1-1.

"Emergency response units responded to a call of gunshots being heard ... in the town of Markham," Insp. John Burness explained. "Ambulance personnel and the police arrived where they found the body of a male laying on the ground, vital signs absent."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and police haven't yet released his name.

Detectives are looking for a single suspect who's described as:

Male
Asian
About 5'2"
In his 20s.
He was wearing a long-sleeved, dark-coloured shirt and jeans.

Teen Drowns In Hotel Pool

In the blink of an eye revelry can turn to tragedy, and that's exactly what happened at a Toronto hotel Saturday.
16-year-old Osa Imalele was supposed to be enjoying an International Nigerian Conference with his family. Instead, his body was found nine feet below water at the bottom of the Renaissance Hotel pool. The pool doesn't operate under the supervision of a lifeguard.

"To me, I still think that maybe I'm in a very bad dream...a long dream, that maybe I will wake up and he's alive," said Osazee Imasuen, a family friend.

Imalele was pulled from the pool by two Toronto Police officers that were working paid duty at the hotel for the conference. One made an attempt to resuscitate the child and managed to regain a pulse momentarily, but ultimately the officers' efforts were in vain.

Family and friends prayed as the ambulance departed the scene with the boy, but by 11:40 a.m., Imalele was pronounced dead.

"We are serious Christians, we went to do serious praying," said Oxaze Ogbomo, another family friend.

"But in the end, the doctor came in and pronounced the boy dead."

Osa was supposed to start Grade 12 on Tuesday. Instead his family will be learning hope to cope with life without their beloved.

"It is the will of God," offered Imasuen in trying to understand the sudden tragedy. "Only God knows why this happened."

In the meantime, hotel management has come to its defence saying there have never been any drownings at the location before. The pool will remain closed indefinitely.

Suspects Sought In Bizarre Chemical Money Scam

Peel Police are trying to track down a couple of suspects who allegedly used a smoke and mirrors scam of sorts to bilk business owners out of thousands of dollars.
Three people were apparently approached by the two-well dressed suspects, police said, and one person was defrauded of $49,000.

Authorities outlined how the alleged scam worked. They claim the men targeted a banquet hall owner, telling the victim they were interested in purchasing the business.

Over a number of meetings with the business owner, the suspects allegedly told the victim they had a large sum of American cash that's been brought from Nigeria, but add the bills had to be dyed black in order to transport them into Canada.

The suspects allegedly told the victim they had to treat the cash with a special chemical to return it to its original form and demonstrated the process in front of the business owner.

Police said the pair then asked the victim to provide some money to purchase more of the "special" chemical.

The victim was told the money he fronted for the conversion process would be returned. The liquid was purchased and the business owner was left to watch black paper turn into American bills as the suspects took off, authorities allege.

In one case, the culprits stole $9,000 cash while the victim was watching the conversion process happen, investigators claim.

Police say one suspect identified himself as Timsipho "Tim" Myimkhulu. He's described as:

about 35-years-old
5'4" and 150lbs.
The second suspect identified himself as Adam. He's described as:

Black, Nigerian
30-years-old
185lbs
The men were seen driving a dark grey older model Acura.
