Don't know too much about it. They're pushing Rhonda Vincent now, she's from Kirksville. She's won a bunch of awards.

here's a cd I bought that is excellent: Songs fro mthe Mountain. Dirk Powell Tim O Brien and John Herrman. Wayfaring stranger, skillet good n greasy, excellent tunes. AS OWG noted, this music makes niggers skedaddle.

I have an old early '60s album from John Duffy and the Country Gentlemen that's one of my prized possessions. John Duffy died a couple years ago unfortunately but I'm pretty sure the Country Gentlemen are still playing and recording. I don't know how many line-up changes they've made over the years but the band that recorded the album I have is great. That record is practically irreplacable as far as I know. I've never met anyone who has it and I've never seen it in any store, even used.

My question has always been, what mood is bluegrass for? I mean I could see like an old pickup truck rolling down the highway trying to escape the police on a dirtroad but not just going to McDonalds and picking up a big mac. Its just too fast for most activities. :D

Maybe we misunderstood each other. I was cracking a joke in saying that the mood of the music is up tempo. Oh and I already know about Bill Monroe, he founded it yes. Even named it after his Kentucky locale. Every music has a mood to it dictated by its tempo. But you already knew that, `stone. I like country music and some bluegrass but the tempo is fast in alot of it, and its requires alot of talent, some have it like Bill Monroe and Flatts and Scruggs. Plus the newer artists like Allison Krause and Union Station plus, Nickel Creek has some bluegrass stuff.


Bluegrass isn't a mood and it's not the "Dukes of Hazzard" soundtrack.

It's a part of American folk culture.

Now, this is a big leap musically,but I wish folks would give the Beach Boys the credit they are due in American music. Brian Wilson was the author of those magical A-sides that are a part of American culture.

Until he went nutters and hired himself a jewish psychologist in 1968 or so, he put out some of the most complex and beautiful tunes ever. Some of the harmonies of the early songs are almost confusing.
