German football clubs fined over racist chants

27 September 2006

FRANKFURT - A German Football Federation (DFB) sports court Wednesday fined Bundesliga clubs Alemannia Aachen and Borussia Moenchengladbach for racist chants at two players during a league match this month.

Newly-promoted Aachen have been ordered to pay 50,000 euros (about 63,500 dollars) while Moenchengladbach have been fined 19,000 euros, the DFB said.

Moenchengladbach's Brazilian striker Kahe was initially the subject of racist chants from a section of Aachen fans at the match in Aachen on September 16.

Chants were then heard coming from the away team's fans directed at Aachen's Zambian defender Moses Sichone.

The referee had threatened at one stage to take players off the pitch if the abuse continued.
