Woman Attacked In Oshawa Park

Sunday October 15, 2006

Durham Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a suspect after a young woman was attacked in an Oshawa park.

The assault happened Friday just after 11:30pm in Memorial Park, in the Centre and John Streets area. Authorities say a man approached the 18-year-old victim as she was walking through the area and asked her about her underwear. She was then pushed against a tree and the suspect tried to kiss her neck.

The woman fought back and bit her attacker, possibly through his clothing, on the right side of his neck and the man took off on foot.

The suspect is described as:

35 - 40-years-old with a tanned complexion
About 6'2", 270 - 300lbs with a large beer belly
Brown hair, dark-coloured full beard, one large thick eyebrow, thin face with sunken cheeks and an oddly-shaped nose

Police say he was wearing a dark jacket, black toque with a large white dot on the front above the right eye, and brown wool gloves with the finger tips cut off.

Investigators believe he may have a large bruise or bite mark where the victim bit him.

If you can help police, call the Sexual Assault Unit at (905) 579-1520 ext. 5344 or Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
