>Which songs... 'Tragedy in You' is the one I like the most,
that's "tragedy for you" but yes it's a decent song. i prefer other songs off that tyranny for you cd. such as, moldavia, sacrifice, soul manager, etc. there's some great remixes of rhythm of time but you have to sort of look for those on a music server if you want them for free. you can always buy them at gemm.com or something i suppose.
>and Don't Crash.
an excellent song. i believe from 85' or so. great u-boat song. i own the 12"
i own a lot of 80's records. i have "oofficial version" by 242 as well. came out in 87'. a fantastic record. nice dance tracks and some quality electronics.
geography is good imo too. it was a turning point for them i think. have that one as well. believe it's from 83' or so, i'd have to check.
>There's also a couple tracks off their first record that were ok, real old school synth-pop: Geography I, Ethics, etc
their first record was the one that had techno classic "body to body". came out in 81' or so. it's a 7' but there's a "two in one" 12" that has btb as well.
>I'm sick of that frickin' song Headhunter though.
why? it's a great song. i never overplay my songs, that CAN get boring. the key is to have a lot of music from each time period, then you never get bored. it was a big 80's club hit. my favorite time period. despite the name, the song is about hardcore business practices or something. the video has some guy in a suit downtown. i have the video too.
>I think there's even a CD of just mixes of that song. Blech!
mixes can be crappy just depends. i like the v 3.0 of it best. 1.0 isn't as good. i liked the talla2xlc.com remix of headhunter 2000 as well. a nice trance version.
>As far as Covenant goes, I believe they've actually declined musically since their man song-writer left. Or I remember reading about his exit from the group. But I stopped following them after their United States of Mind CD.
hmm, who would that be?
>Their best songs were Feedback and Wall of SOUND!
these songs were "ok" not that great. there best stuff and hits were like dead stars(which was pretty big and very much lead the electroclash stuff)
and final man. go film was pretty good too. they're not as good as 242 and they're kind of off sometimes in their music. it's weird. so many wannabe's these days it's hard to find really original stuff.
>Apoptygma Berzerk are a band I actually did not care for early on, but they actually have some good tunes that made a great impression on me. A lot of their stuff is off-putting, but there's some songs that are wonderful.
hmm i heard some song that has a girl singing where she says "to liiiiive like thiiiis" or something. it's apparently an apop bez. song. i don't really care for them as a lot of the metropolis recs bands are really crap and watterd down. sort of like vnv nation. they're sometimes good but other times it's the same god damned distorted vocals and cheesey trance/synth lines that were done by ministry and others years ago. so i',m a bit of a criitic when it comes too new acts claiming that they're the "shit".
>But Overall, VNV Nation is probably the best band out there putting new stuff out.
i totally disagree. there's some fantastic acts out there like "fixmer/mccarthy" swayzak, etc. fixmer mccarthy it pretty much universally the coolest thing to be formed in a while. it features former nitzer ebb singer/programmer douglas mccarthy on vocals. very agressive and nice quality stuff. no cheee factor or any really boring long gothy nonsensical keybooard lines. just straight for the throat.

the new front line assembly's not too bad either. the recent 242 was okay. a few decent songs. the new kraftwerk was decent and the new new order will be better than most hopefully.
>VNV had an early track called: "Strength of Youth"(!) And what is that but obviously a play on words with Strength Through Joy, which was a German Nazi era program promoted for the nation's workers. They also have other songs like, 'Honour', 'Kingdom', 'Joy'... real defiant and insipirational sounding words and music.
yes and new order or joy division had a strength through joy theme as well, i believe.
they're not bad but there no where near front 242's ablity to make incredible keyboard sounds. and new sounds. 242 amazes me with nenw sounds on eac album. always before any other band.
vnv nation has some nice synths but it's nothing really new or ground breaking. the singing could use a little work too. rather psychedelic furs vocals sounding at times. it's really tough finding good singers with "the right" vocals.
so many times a band has the sounds but then the vocals fail a bit. covenant for example. sometimes they're spot on though. vnv is spot-on with a few songs however. too close is amazing and joy isn't too bad either

yeah they're alright. a little pc(on one song anyway) for my tastes but i like codneys agressive approach.

thanks i'll have a listen. =)
ironically i have a lot of vnv stuff online and am going through them now. some are quite good and inspirational but some are just utter crap and too redudant. that's why i like 242 because they always new have sounds9oor te right sounds) that really just make you go "fuck yeah"

Covenant is pretty good.
My favorite electonic/Industrial music would have to be :Wumpscut:
I personally don't think there is anything out there that can compare imho.
Funker Vogt, Second Decy, Hocico and Cruxshadows are also worTH checking out.
Anybody like skinny puppy?
My friend saw them live last month and she said they were fuckin awesome.
Glad to see some other electonic/industrial fans out there.

Now, in my 'conspiratorial' mind, VNV Nation often stray off in some real ambiguous territory with their iconography, lyrical themes, song titles - an overall aesthetic - that I believe has a National Socialist influence. By no means are they politically National Socialist, far from it. But there's an undercurrent intentionally injected in the same way Joy Division did it.
"Arclight" by VNV Nation
At first light lay proud foundations.
Sense the greatness that before you unfolds.
Seek no more for hollow answers.
Answers that lay within you all along.
Farewell to dawns seen through saddened eyes.
Farewell to pasts to sorrows chained.
Forget your fears.
You will have everything.
You will be strong and want no more.
You'll be adored.
You will have everything.
Forget your fears and want no more.
On your recommendation I bought VNV Nation's 'Futureperfect' CD yesterday and I am enjoying it. I can see what you mean about their aesthetic being very Nazi-influenced, though I can't figure out what their politics are really. I wouldn't be surprised, based on what I've heard, if they have National Socialist leanings but keep the lyrics somewhat ambiguous to fly under the radar of industry censors. Still, the overall effect is such that I can't imagine listeners not getting the point, or at least being encouraged to develop aesthetically (and therefore spiritually) in a National Socialist direction. Anyway it's refreshing. Thanks for the post.

That band is French. So you would call it frog music. I'm kidding.
I think that's ambient/soft electronica. It seems like the kind of music girls like and who knows how many people fucked to their music? Could be millions. It's pretty hard to draw lines between all the various types.
I remember they had that one big hit in the early 90's callled Sadness. I was at university and they played it all the time. They also did the theme to the Matrix Films.

Enigma uses a choir from some monestary, the lead singer is "Sabrina", a German and her husband is a Hungarian who does the synthesis

Right. She sings in French, but probably isn't any good doing it so. That's why the French get called French. Sorry, Sabrina is Spanish. I meant "Sandra".
I've got the 18 greatest hits CD which she recorded before doing "eNIGma"

I stand corrected. Yes, as I recall, they used monk chants or songs in some of their tunes. I guess it just sounded French and I made an erroneous assumption.

French is a Latin derivative, so it's not difficult to confuse the two. Sandra indeed sings in French and the MONKeyS might be of French origin. They're eNIGma, none the less
