I believe there was an upgrade or some form of problem with the software and it affected the database. That is possibly where your posts went.

I know that we lost the "This Just In" forum about a year ago, including the epic Judge Lefkow thread, but at the time, it didn't alter the post counts at all. I looked to see if anyone else has complained about losing posts, and I have not seen anything, which is why I posted this thread. PERHAPS I'm overreacting and it is some "innocent mistake", but if so, it appears to be an innocent mistake that has only affected my banned account. Very interesting indeed.

Irongaurd1940 and I were talking tonight and we both had posts deleted as well, over 100 for me and he said 50 or so for him. Like you I really don't pay to much attention except it was pointed out to me I was almost at 600 posts when wham back to 490 something. It's no big deal but I'm would like to know why.

One of the mods oughta explain the missing-posts mystery. I know Ron Doggett wouldn't lie about it. However, it could perhaps be due to the recent attacks on VNNF.

I also note that VNNF has not added one new member in about a week. Total membership stands at 6,926 with Bob Kelsoe the last new member.

I lost a handful of posts myself, maybe 10-20 at the most, but no big deal as far as I'm concerned. I commend the mods and other tech heads for bringing VNN through these DOS attacks as well as they did.

Instead of 1 out of every 2 clicks resulting in an error message, it's now improved to only 1 out of 20 clicks resulting in an error message. It looks like VNN is nearly back to full health again :cheers:

It seems to be related to the disappearance of a large number of posts, possibly due to attacks on VNNF followed by recovery from an incomplete backup.

There could be an backup-to-disk strategy set up do backup on a continuous basis, dependent on how often a tape or online backup is made. This would have to be a separate disk subsystem, perferably with another box doing the backup.
