When I log on to this website it never fails that I have to keep logging in about every 5-10 minutes. Anyone know what is causing this? Once I log in it would seem that I would stay logged in until I choose to log out. It's really annoying to have to keep repeating this process.

Can someone check into this please?

Thanks in advance,

T

Session timeouts are set too short.

Clear the VNN Forum cookie from your computer and then log in again making sure to check the box that says 'remember me'. If that doesn't clear up the problem then we'll have to look into what else it might be. My computer started doing that with my car insurance company website the other day after I installed some updates to my OS. I'm still trying to track down that problem.

PM me if the problem continues.

I've always had this problem. If there is no activity for say, 10 minutes, your session will expire.

Thanks Stan. When I close out my web browser I delete all files that originated from the browser. I build high end workstations and servers and know where all of those folders are with the internet and other files. So each time I log on it's with a clean slate.

I can begin to write a reply to a given message and by the time I'm ready to post it I have to log back in again. Hope this helps in finding the culprit.

Thanks for your attention in this matter,

T

Are you logging in and then going off to read other pages or watch a video? Perhaps walking away from your computer for a few minutes? If so, this is on the server side and has nothing whatsoever to do with the workstation or cookies.

This is what I'm taking from your post, anyway.

Not a problem, but I am curious. I looked up which members are the ones with the most postings.

On number one there is "WaspFather" with a whopping 4,294,967,287 posts. :D

And I always thought the famous 6-million-number was an exaggeration! WaspFather beats this classic easily. ;)

I *just* started having this problem, last night. I came to the forum, and for some reason had to sign in. So, figuring something could have gone weird, I signed in, making sure to check the remember me box, I HATE having to always sign into the boards. Since last night, anytime I leave the forums, or close my browser, I will have to sign back in. As long as I don't leave the VNNF page, I have no problem.

ISP's can install server side bandwidth management software that affect SMTP and encrypted credentials.

New ISP management software can restrict bandwidth usage allowances based on activity specifically with relation to forum based encrypted credentials and session state connection strings maintenance. The POP/SMTP server seems to be instructed to drop connections carrying the encrypted credentials to conserve bandwidth.

There are probably some hacks that can detect and counter such ISP bandwidth (SMTP/POP server) management software.
