Local Karate Instructors Accused Of Molesting Students
Man, Woman Arrested
LOUISVILLE -- Two local karate teachers have been arrested and accused of sexually abusing two female students.
Karate Instructors Face Sex Abuse Charges
Police arrested Lori Franklin at her place of employment, Louisville Federal Credit Union, late Thursday afternoon, then arrested her boyfriend, Richard M. Woodard III a short time later just a few blocks away as he was coming to pick her up from work, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Maria Gum reported.
The two are facing charges of sex abuse, but details are not being released because further charges could follow, according to police.
The two were instructors at Richard Karate Academy at 7275 Dixie Highway, which is now closed, Gum reported. Family members of the alleged victims said the instructors would use their authoritative positions to take advantage of the students. They also said the instructors threatened to kill those family members if they would have contacted police about the alleged abuse.
The academy closed last month after being open for about six years, Gum reported. According to police, more cases of abuse are being investigated by the Crimes Against Children Unit.
