I have decided to post the entire July 11, 2007 story on Warman for three reasons: (1) the Web link will undoubtedly be dead in the near future; (2) not enough is known about the little communist tyrant, and (3) I don’t want to see this post fade quickly into obscurity.


Ottawa Citizen reporter Don Butler is clearly awestruck by the great Canadian hero Richard Warman. Note the usual tributes from Warman’s fan base, including Len Rudner of the Canadian Jewish Congress (Warman’s main sponsor), Michael Geist (a Jewish professor from the University of Ottawa who specializes in electronic media issues) and, of course, for added “balance,” Liberal Party ideologue Warren Kinsella (author of the laughable Liberal propaganda screed “Web of Hate,” where everyone who is not a card-carrying member of the Liberal Party is branded a right-wing lunatic deserving of imprisonment and silencing).

As you would expect from a Jew-owned newspaper (the Ottawa Citizen is part of the huge Canwest Global media empire, owned by the Asper family and run by Leonard Asper, one of Izzy’s idiot sons). The only one not quoted is Warman’s main fan and sponsor, Bernie Farber (Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Jewish Congress), who must be on vacation. As usual, no attempt whatsoever is made to interview or quote anyone who opposes Warman’s and the Jewish community’s ongoing (and, so far, very successful) crusade for censorship. This is what passes for “balanced” reporting in the People’s Republic of Canada.

The Citizen article itself is a celebration of the fact that true freedom of expression does not exist in this country (which is why this message is being posted from an American Web site, a country where freedom of expression is constitutionally protected and where a sizeable portion of the population still actually believes in, and protects, freedom—as opposed to the People’s Republic of Canada, where people simply pay lip service to the concept). You will be allowed to express yourself in Canada alright, but only insofar as what you say or write conforms to the generally accepted conventional left-wing wisdom of the country’s mainstream political parties (the Liberal Party, especially), B’nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress. Dare step over that line and you are headed for an appearance before the main enforcer of this anti-democratic, socialist orthodoxy: a kangaroo court known as the federal “Human Rights” Commission. Run by a bunch of radical-left Liberal/socialist hacks, your conviction for having the temerity to express your views freely is virtually guaranteed, since unfettered freedom of expression has itself been declared a crime.

It is a pathetic commentary on the state of the masses and freedom in the People’s Republic of Canada that it is generally accepted that the State/Big Brother has a legitimate role to play not only in censoring what people say and write, but, now, in the regulation of their emotions as well. Hence, the “hate crime,” a form of thought crime concocted by Canada’s socialist politicians in conjunction with the likes of B’nai Brith, the Canadian Jewish Congress and other proponents of State censorship, the goal being to stifle dissent from the generally accepted socialist political line. This imaginary “offence” (which has all too real consequences) has been interpreted by various provincial and federal “human rights” (and I use quotation marks here advisedly) commissions in such a way as to criminalize any form of expression, verbal or written, which happens to offend one minority group or another, be it Jews (who squawk the loudest and who are at the forefront the censorship movement in Canada and elsewhere), homosexuals, leftist politicians, radical feminists, Muslims, and Blacks, Indians, Asians and other non-White special interest groups. In other words, hurt their feelings, pay a fine and go to jail.

And if the minority special interest groups and their lackey “human rights” commissioners can’t nail you for a hate/thought crime, they have plenty of other tools in their arsenal: homophobia, sexism, racism, Holocaust denial/trivialization, Islamophobia or any number of other phobias and “isms” near and dear to the hearts of freedom-fearing leftists everywhere. One way or another, you will be muzzled or imprisoned. This is the cause that the great hero Warman (recent recipient of prestigious and coveted “Saul Hayes Human Rights Award,” courtesy of the Canadian Jewish Congress) and his supporters are championing.

Warman and his fellow travellers may have won a few battles, but they will not win the war as long as there are Canadians left who are determined to strenuously resist their attempts to turn this country into a totalitarian State. Reporter Don Butler closes his encomium by gleefully informing us that “Richard Warman isn't going away any time soon.” To that I reply: Don’t be so sure. Tyrants tend to be short-lived.

He calls himself more 'Aryan' than the hatemongers he chases, but Ottawa lawyer Richard Warman has become the bete noire of Canada's neo-Nazis, writes Don Butler.

His admirers call him one of the bravest people in Canada. His enemies rage that he's a "professional complainer" and "devious character" who suppresses their freedom of speech. The most extreme openly call for his death.

But whatever you think of Ottawa lawyer Richard Warman, this much seems clear: He's the Canadian neo-Nazi movement's worst nightmare.

Over the past half-dozen years, Mr. Warman, acting on his own, has lodged 15 complaints with the Canadian Human Rights Commission against neo-Nazis and white supremacists for spreading hatred on the Internet against Jews, blacks, homosexuals and other target groups.

Richard Warman has launched 15 complaints with the Canadian Human Rights Commission against neo-Nazis and white supremacist websites.

Nine of his complaints have led to rulings by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that shut down hate websites.

His most recent victory came yesterday, when the tribunal upheld his complaint against Vanier resident Bobby James Wilkinson, who operated the "Canadian Nazi Party" website. The tribunal fined Mr. Wilkinson $4,000 and ordered him to stop using the Internet to spread hatred.

Two other complaints were settled, to Mr. Warman's satisfaction, in mediation. The rest are still winding their way through the system.

Of the 11 human rights tribunal rulings to date on Internet hate, Richard Warman was the complainant in nine -- including every ruling since 2002. He estimates he's spent more than $30,000 of his own money pursuing his complaints.

"He's had an enormous impact," says Michael Geist, the Canadian research chair in Internet and e-commerce law at the University of Ottawa. "In a sense, he's got the mechanics of how we deal with online hate up and running. It's fair to say no one has been as effective or persistent."

The result is a body of jurisprudence that leaves little doubt Canadian law applies to online hate speech that originates in this country. The decisions, says Mr. Geist, "have sent a clear warning to those who engage in hate speech that this is not a no-law land."

Toronto lawyer Warren Kinsella, whose 1994 book, Web of Hate, enraged the radical right, calls Mr. Warman "extraordinarily courageous. Most people do not understand that when you speak up against terrorists -- in this case, far-right terrorists -- they do not thereafter engage you in scholarly debate. Sometimes, they want to kill you. Warman knows that, but he keeps going."

That makes him, in Mr. Kinsella's estimation, "one of the bravest people in Canada."

Last month, the Canadian Jewish Congress recognized Mr. Warman's efforts with the prestigious Saul Hayes Human Rights Award. Yet despite the default assumptions of his neo-Nazi enemies, he's not a Jew. In fact, he's not a member of any of the racial or religious groups hatemongers routinely target.

"I'm a WASP boy from small-town Ontario," confesses Mr. Warman, a fit-looking man in his late 30s with close-cropped blond hair.

"I'm actually more Aryan by the stereotypical definition than some of the defendants in these cases."

To Len Rudner, the Canadian Jewish Congress's national director of community relations, that simply makes Mr. Warman's solo crusade all the more remarkable.

"The fact that Richard says through his deeds, 'this is my problem, not because I'm a Jew, but because I'm a Canadian,' is certainly meaningful to me, and it should be meaningful to everybody," says Mr. Rudner.

"It's easy to applaud from the back rows," he says, "far more difficult to be in the orchestra pit leading the band. And that's where Richard is."

It's frequently not a very comfortable place to be. After Mr. Warman launched his first complaint in 2002 against Fred Kyburz, an Alberta man who was targeting Jews on his website, Mr. Kyburz retaliated by trying to get him fired from his government job.

He also threatened to sue Mr. Warman and deploy "flyers" to ruin his reputation, and made veiled threats against his life. After upholding Mr. Warman's complaint, the human rights tribunal ordered Mr. Kyburz to pay him $30,000 in compensation for his retaliation and threats, though Mr. Warman has yet to see a penny.

Last year, when one of Mr. Warman's complaints led to the jailing of London, Ont., white supremacist Tomasz Winnicki, two U.S. neo-Nazi websites called for Mr. Warman's death.

One site said killing him and others involved in the case "would be a genuine act of patriotism." Another, run by Virginian Bill White, head of the American National Socialist Workers Party, published Mr. Warman's home address and phone number, adding: "Aryan brothers are encouraged to pay the sonofabitch communist a visit." Mr. White later told CBC that Mr. Warman deserved to be killed, a view he has since repeated on various websites.

Mr. Warman, whose affable manner masks inner steel, says he was initially taken aback by the threats. "I had no idea that people would be so psychotic as to start posting death threats," he says.

He's come to understand, though, that such tribulations come with the territory he has chosen to inhabit. "Human rights work and advancement will always come with some level of cost," he recognizes. But he won't be intimidated. "I would never give the satisfaction and the victory to the hate-mongers."

The threats have, however, made him far more cautious and private. He won't talk about where he works, for example, acknowledging only that it's with the federal government. Nor will Mr. Warman, who was born into a military family in Lahr, West Germany, say where he was raised, to protect family members.

"When you have people out there inciting people to murder you, giving your home address, giving your picture and providing them with maps on how to get there," he says, "it really forces you to build up some fairly high personal walls."

Mr. Warman has been monitoring neo-Nazis and white supremacists for nearly two decades, but turned to the task in earnest while articling at the Federal Court in Ottawa after graduating from McGill with a master's degree in law in 1999.

He'd been inspired by a human rights tribunal hearing he attended in 1998 involving the Canadian Heritage Front, then Canada's largest neo-Nazi group. He watched in admiration as the human rights commission's lawyer, Eddie Taylor, led the assault.

"He looked like he had just stepped off his Harley," he recalls of Mr. Taylor. "He had his shit-kickers on in court, he had this great big white beard, this shock of white long hair tied back in a ponytail. It was like poetry watching him kick the Heritage Front around the tribunal hearing room."

That 1998 hearing dealt with a telephone hate line operated by the Heritage Front. But even then, far right groups were turning in droves to the Internet to disseminate their poisonous messages.

Mr. Warman knew that in Canada, the pool of leadership figures within the neo-Nazi movement was fairly shallow. "So I basically said, if you targeted the leadership and the worst offenders of this movement in a systemic fashion, you could then knock these people off the greatest communications tool that had been invented for their purposes."

He set about doing just that, beginning with Mr. Kyburz in early 2002. "If you wanted someone on a worst offender basis, he was up there," he says.

On an almost daily basis, Mr. Kyburz was "cranking out hate propaganda" against Jews from his website, Patriots on Guard. "He'd gotten to the point where he was posting material that advocated the genocide of the Jewish community."

His eyes widen at the memory. "You can't believe that in the 21st century there are still people out there who cling to this kind of disgraceful and utterly repulsive hatemongering."

He had to endure a nasty counter-attack from Mr. Kyburz, but Mr. Warman prevailed. On May 9, 2003, the human rights tribunal ordered Mr. Kyburz to shut down his web forum and refrain from posting similar hateful messages elsewhere on the Internet. As well as ordering Mr. Kyburz to pay Mr. Warman compensation, the tribunal fined him $7,500.

Mr. Warman continued to scour the Internet for Canadian hatemongers, finding many at a U.S. neo-Nazi site called Stormfront, whose web forum has a Canadian section. "It's almost like moths to a flame," he says. "They can't avoid it."

He won another tribunal victory in 2005, but that was just a prelude to his stunning success in 2006, when the tribunal upheld no fewer than five of his complaints.

The most memorable was against Mr. Winnicki, London, Ont.'s self-confessed "biggest hater." Even before the case reached the tribunal, Mr. Warman was pushing the human rights commission to take some action because, he says, "the material was horrific and it just kept going."

In 2005, the commission applied for, and got, an interim injunction from the Federal Court ordering Mr. Winnicki to stop spreading hatred on the Internet until the tribunal heard and decided his case.

"That was the first-ever injunction dealing with Internet hate," says Mr. Warman. "It was incredibly rewarding to see the law being advanced by virtue of the cases that I had brought."

Mr. Winnicki ignored the injunction and was subsequently sentenced to nine months in jail for contempt, a sentence later reduced to three months on appeal. That was another first -- the first time someone in Canada was imprisoned for posting hate on the Internet. Meanwhile, the tribunal ruled against him, fining him $6,000 for his "vicious and dehumanizing" messages.

While Mr. Warman's successes are gratifying, they have come at a cost that goes beyond the merely financial. There are the threats, of course, and the need they impose to take precautions. But he also believes he's paid a price in career terms.

Between 2002 and 2004, he worked as an investigator for the human rights commission. (He insists he pursued his complaints on his own time and they had no connection with his commission work.)

When the commission decided to reallocate resources in 2004, Mr. Warman was the only investigator laid off. [William Fennimore comment: This asshole is so obnoxious that even his fellow fanatics at the “Human “Right” Commission couldn’t stand him. According to Warman, it was all a neo-Nazi conspiracy instigated by Paul Fromm, which is why he is suing the latter for libel.] He's convinced the actions of the neo-Nazi community were a factor in that decision, and alleges so in an ongoing libel action against one of the Canadian far right's most prominent figures, Paul Fromm, a frequent adversary at tribunal hearings.

Given the dangers and difficulties, many might ask why he persists.

He turns the question around. "Let's say you found out that somebody was calling for the genocide of your neighbour. Isn't it incumbent on everyone to say, 'it's not OK and that's got to be stopped'?" he demands.

"I don't really want to see my Jewish neighbours wiped out. I don't really want to see my black neighbours wiped out, or anyone else who's among the target group."

Part of his motivation comes from having relatives who fought Nazis in the Second World War. "It's really a betrayal of the veterans and all those who contributed in World War II to ignore the ongoing threat from these groups that are seeking to resurrect an idea that should have died 60 years ago in a bunker in Berlin."

He also feels it's incumbent on him as a lawyer to repay the investment society made in his education by working for the societal good. Ignoring the problem, he insists, would be "betraying my duty to the profession.

"It's imperative that individuals and groups take steps as strong as they can to defend human rights in Canada," he says. "Because if they're not defended, they get undermined. Eventually they get worn down through disuse. I could never bear to see that happen."

Anti-Semitism and racism, he argues, are a community problem and need to be treated as such. "There's never been a history of genocide that hasn't been proceeded by demonization."

While his neo-Nazi adversaries try to paint him as a foe of free speech, Mr. Warman, a four-time candidate for the Green party, notes that the Supreme Court has consistently denied protection to those who direct hatred at identifiable groups. "It is so poisonous and so toxic to the multicultural nature of modern Canadian society that it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

According to Mr. Geist, the far right's vilification of Mr. Warman is misdirected. "In a sense, their beef is with the government and society as a whole," he says. Mr. Warman "is simply using the legal tools that we as a society have chosen to create to try to deal with this issue."

After nearly seven years in the anti-hatred trenches, Mr. Warman says he has accomplished many of his goals. He's been able to shut down the worst offenders and establish that the Internet is not the Wild West, "somewhere where you could just run amok."

He also wanted to show that people can be held accountable for their actions. He feels he's done that, too, though the system is so cumbersome it often reinforces the barriers to pursuing hatemongers.

"There's got to be some method of improving the system so it doesn't take two to four years to have these cases go from start to finish," he says. Better funding for human rights bodies would help. "If you're serious about saying that society needs to be protected from hate speech," he says, "then you have to put your money where your mouth is."

Mr. Warman is constantly evaluating his one-man crusade, "to make sure it's making a useful contribution and that it's something I've still got the fire in the belly over." He pauses, perhaps contemplating the next white supremacist in his sights. "Up to this point, I haven't had any problems with either of those."

Bad news for the haters: Richard Warman isn't going away any time soon.

You know, that’s exactly what the scumbags are doing- agitating folks like us to say or do something illegal. Frankly, there’s an internet war going on; the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We often hear that freedom of speech is not absolute, but we don't hear why except to say "It's like yelling fire in a crowded theater." Some background -

I was looking through an old paperback book about some "philosopher" named Marcuse. (The back of the book said "Marcuse, Marx and Mao" were something or other in the 1960s). Anyway, Marcuse couldn't think or speak straight, making him popular with commies, but he had a philosophy that freedom of speech was not absolute because the society itself or some self appointed censor would decide what was permitted and what was not permitted. What is never permitted is an attack on the basis of the society. The "self evident" examples given of taboo speech were advocating genocide or advocating taking away the rights of another group, and one other example, I can't remember but it was something we do here every day.

The problem is we DON'T have any society values any more, those were all knocked down in the 60s, we only have a self-appointed group of censors like the Jews and their Human Rights Tribunal.

Canadians, I would say about 98% of them are gutless cowards, & if they do not go along with the Zionist Extremist Jews in Montreal wholeheartedly, they for sure will not do or say anything against their reign of terror.

As I suspected Friday’s raid on the Regina home of Terry Tremaine (Mathdoktor99 on Stormfront) was the result of a complaint by Ottawa arch complainer and free speech opponent Richard Warman. A frequent Warman tactic using his “maximum disruption” technique against political dissidents, is to file simultaneous Sec. 13.1 Internet censorship and Sec. 319 (hate law) complaints. He’s done this in the Alexan Kulbashian, Marc Lemire, Glenn Bahr and Jessica Beaumont/Ciaran Donnelly cases. Often the victim is raided by the police who take his computer and other goods.

Mr. Tremaine lost his computer and software as well as books, which were not mentioned in the warrant. No victim to our knowledge has ever gotten their computer back from the political police in this poxy politically correct tyranny.

The Canadian Association for Free Expression (CAFÉ) is accepting donations to buy Mr. Tremaine another computer. “We hope to have him back in business by the end of the week,” Mr. Fromm said.

Enclosed is a compilation of what I have been gleaning from the papers out here. Lately, all I have been reading about or seeing are half-page advertisements featuring apologies or grants to native groups from everybody from CN to Suncor or Syncrude. Of course it might as well as read, "WHITES NEED NOT APPLY". For that is what it all really means, though they don't dare say it. All this for a gang of whiners who do not want to integrate into our society or pay taxes. But donning balaclavas, brandishing weapons and manning fiery blockages, sure that's okay. The hypocrisy of our media is almost maddening.

Even in this town, they are frequently running multicultural articles and I call them to chastise them at every instance. Two days ago, the front page featured our dim bulb female mayor looking on in awe as a Somalian migrant spoke of his refugee experience on what was "World Refugee Day". What a waste of damn tax dollars. 'Course, our mayor has no idea about what Somalians have done to some parts of Toronto or how they clog up the jails/welfare system, but I guess that's the sheltered life that she leads up here in mostly white oil town.

Immigrant crime is a bloody nightmare in most of our major cities, but the press treats all of this like it's the Eskimos who are dealing drugs and shooting up our cities. Frankly, I don't think that these inbred, politically correct morons even read their own newspapers. Maybe it is just the math that the idiots cannot figure out, but it is real simple. When you spend $5 billion on a war in crap hole Afghanistan, $5 billion bringing in migrants and refugees that nobody wants or needs, and $10 billion on mostly non-productive native groups, it is fairly easy to figure out that there will not be much money left for working Canadians, whose money it is in the first place!

'Course to speak publicly about this constitutes a "hate crime" or so say the politically correct who run our court system. So, I guess it is better to stay silent, become victimized, eventually, and go broke in the process. Canada, some damn democracy! Perhaps it is we that should be erecting road blocks and blockades. I wonder how the media, politicians, cops and courts would treat us then? And would the big companies place big ads to either apologize or promote our way of life that, trust, me folks, ain't going to be around for long.

On May 17, 2007 the Canadian federal government revoked Helmut Oberlander’s Canadian citizenship for the second time.

This revocation order comes in spite of a Federal Court of Appeal ruling on May 31, 2004 which restored Mr. Oberlander’s citizenship in a unanimous ruling of 3 judges, after first being revoked in 2001.

The Federal Court found that Mr. Oberlander was not involved directly or indirectly in any war crimes in WW II.

The Federal Court of Appeal found that the government did not follow its own war crimes policy of only proceeding in cases where there is ‘the existence of some evidence of individual criminality’.

In 2001 Mr. Oberlander was first stripped of his Canadian citizenship on the basis that he withheld information or “lied” when he was interviewed by Canadian Immigration officials in 1952. A federal court judge ruled that “on the balance of probabilities” he did not disclose that as a 17-year old student living in the Ukraine in 1941, he was forced to work as an interpreter for a German Security Forces. The government has destroyed all of the records relating to Mr. Oberlander’s immigration including this interview.

The revocation of citizenship should never be done on the opinion of politicians, but should be left to the courts based on Canadian criminal legal standards as guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

We urge the federal Government to restore Mr. Oberlander’s citizenship.

What does Maclean's have in common with a labiaplasty and blood-drinking space lizards from the star system Alpha Draconis?

Well, they're all part of the wacky world of Canadian "human rights."

First things first: what is a labiaplasty? Well, it's a cosmetic procedure performed on the female genitalia for those who are dissatisfied with them. I think I speak for many sad male losers living on ever more distant memories when I say that I find it hard to imagine being dissatisfied with female genita . . .

What's that? Oh, it's the women who are dissatisfied are they? Ah, right. Well, there's the rub. The Ontario Human Rights Commission is currently weighing whether or not to become the (at last count) third "human rights" commission in Canada to prosecute Maclean's for the crime of running an excerpt from my book. The Globe And Mail's Margaret Wente was interested to know what Canada's vast "human rights" machinery does when it isn't sticking it to privately owned magazines, so she swung by the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal to check out the action. And it seems the reason they haven't yet dragged Maclean's into court is because they're tied up hearing the case of two women who claim they were denied their human right to a labiaplasty by a Toronto plastic surgeon who specializes in that particular area. The women proved to be post-operative transsexuals who were unhappy with some of the aesthetic results of their transformation, and Dr. Stubbs declined to perform the procedure on the grounds that he usually operates on biological females and is generally up to speed on what goes where and, when it comes to transsexuals, he had no idea what he was, so to speak, getting into. Had he done it and it had all gone horribly wrong, the plaintiffs would have sued his pants off. So, as a private practitioner, he chose to decline the business, and as a result now finds himself in Human Rights Commission hell.

As Ms. Wente pointed out, you can see what got the "human rights" commissars' juices going: here was an opportunity to lay down a lot of landmark "jurisprudence" on the issue of "transsexuals' access to medical care," and if, in the end, it destroys Dr. Stubbs and his business, hey, that's a price worth paying: the human right to a labiaplasty is too important to a free society. So the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal is solemnly deliberating on whether the party of the first part is obliged to take apart the party of the second part's parts.

Dr. Stubbs is a big-shot plastic surgeon, so, like Maclean's, he can probably withstand a few years of "human rights" heat. The system is risk-free for the plaintiff: the Crown picks up the tab for the "complainant," while the "respondent" — i.e. defendant — has to pay his own legal bills no matter what the eventual verdict is. Ted Kindos of Burlington, Ont., has already spent $20,000 of his own dough defending himself against a "human rights" complaint and estimates he'll add another six figures to that before it's all done. Mr. Kindos owns a modest restaurant, Gator Ted's Tap and Grill. So what outrageous "human right" did he breach? Well, he asked a guy smoking "medical marijuana" in the doorway of his restaurant if he wouldn't mind not doing it. Mr. Kindos felt that his customers — including young children — shouldn't have to pass through a haze of pot smoke to enter his establishment. But apparently in Canada there's a human right to light up a spliff in some other fellow's doorway. The other man's grass is always greener, and in this case the plaintiff's grass will cost Mr. Kindos an awful lot of green. He faces financial ruin, while there's no cost to the complainant.

The "human rights" racket is a disgrace. Canadians are not notably "hateful" people. To be sure, deep in the human heart lurk dark prejudices that may occasionally be furtively expressed to like-minded persons over a drink or two. But discrimination in housing and employment on the grounds of gender and race — the original justification for creating the "human rights" pseudo-courts — is all but extinct, so a self-perpetuating nomenklatura has moved on to invent new rights — like the human right to a labiaplasty or a joint on someone else's property. You'll recall the Osgoode Hall law students who objected to my book excerpt in Maclean's demanded a five-page cover story in response, unedited, with the students determining the artwork and the cover art, along with a financial contribution to their "cause." As any self-respecting publisher would, Kenneth Whyte told them he would rather go bankrupt — much as Mr. Kindos seems likely to. The Osgoode students have since explained that they went to the "human rights" enforcers because they were only trying to "start a debate," and mean old Maclean's was preventing their voices from being heard. They have repeated this mournful plea in lengthy editorials they've written for, at last count, the Globe And Mail, the National Post, the Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, the Ottawa Citizen, the Calgary Herald, the Montreal Gazette, the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, the London Free Press, and no doubt a few other publications. That's the reality of Canada's "Islamophobic" media: they've been given acres of op-ed real estate to yell that their voices are being silenced and all they want to do is start a debate — even though, in none of their many columns, do they actually start it.

Incidentally, although they characterize themselves as the "complainants" in these suits, they're not. In the two "human rights" complaints against Maclean's that are going forward, the complainants in British Columbia are Dr. Mohamed Elmasry, president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, and Naiyer Habib, and, in the federal case, Dr. Elmasry alone. Mohamed Elmasry is the man who announced on Canadian TV that he approved of the murder of any and all Israeli civilians over the age of 18. One can understand why such an unlikely poster boy for the cause of "anti-hate" campaigns would prefer to hide behind his fresh-faced Osgoode sock puppets. But the fact that every major newspaper in Canada has opened its pages to turgid recitations of imagined victimhood by three students who have no standing in these cases tells you everything about how "excluded" and "marginalized" they are. That's the "racist" Canadian media of 2008: all you have to do is claim to represent some community with a grievance and, even though there's no evidence you represent anything other than your own peculiar obsessions and you have nothing substantive to say, nine out of 10 editors will open their pages to you — no matter what your interminable victimological prose does to their circulation.

Dr. Keith Martin, a Liberal member of Parliament, the Canadian Association of Journalists, and PEN Canada (i.e. John Ralston Saul and the rest of the CanCon literati) support the repeal of Section 13 of the Human Rights Code, under which Maclean's and Ezra Levant, former publisher of the Western Standard, have been hauled before the "thought police." Others talk of Maclean's appealing its case (after we lose, as all federal Section 13 defendants do) to the Supreme Court. Last time round, their lordships upheld Section 13 by a four-three majority, announcing confidently that there was "little danger that subjective opinion as to offensiveness will supplant the proper meaning." Of course, that's exactly what has happened, as could have been foreseen by anyone but a Supreme Court judge. This is a philosophically flawed and corruptly administered system that is an affront to Canada's legal inheritance.

That may be why, as even Liberal MPs and PEN Canada understand what's happening, the only defenders of the system are its beneficiaries, like Pearl Eliadis, the former director of the Ontario Human Rights Commission, who accused me in the Montreal Gazette of "disturbing tactics" for having the impertinence to resist being ruled a hate-monger by a kangaroo court. She claims that I am trying to "disentitle" acknowledged human-rights experts, by which she means a small and unrepresentative clique that has done huge damage to real human rights like the presumption of innocence. "Human rights" plaintiffs are professional activists: since filing her complaint, the transsexual in the labiaplasty case has been given a government job investigating the health status of transsexuals. Richard Warman, the plaintiff in over half of all federal Section 13 cases, is not even a transsexual or a member of any other approved victim group. You can write a piece about Jews, gays, Muslims, transsexuals that offends not a single Jew, gay, Muslim or transsexual. But if Mr. Warman, a former employee of the CHRC, decides to get offended on their behalf he'll drag you before the kangaroo court. He has been a plaintiff on every single federal Section 13 case in the last six years. No other provision of Canadian law has such a deformed profile that is, in effect, the personal plaything of one very strange man.

Oh, and the bit at the top about the space lizards? That's a former BBC sports anchor called David Icke whom Mr. Warman has targeted. Mr. Icke went a little odd a few years back and constructed an all-encompassing conspiracy theory starting from the fact that the Queen and other members of the royal family are blood-drinking shape-shifting humanoid reptilians descended from giant space lizards. Mr. Warman decided to shut him down, telling the Independent On Sunday:

"What benefit can there be in allowing him to speak?"

The question is not whether I'm "disentitling" Canada's human rights nomenklatura, but who entitled them in the first place, to the point where Mr. Warman thinks the state commissars should be determining who should be "allowed" to speak. Sorry, but that's not my definition of "human rights." And I'd rather take my chances with a shape-shifting space lizard than an endlessly morphing, ever expanding star chamber that shames Canada.

Ezra Levant is one very odd ***. Using the word "chutzpah" to criticize Warman, the CHRC and the CJC... very very odd.

This means the end of Richard Warman. Finally he has bitten off more than he can chew. Ezra Levant et al. (Levant was a successful politician, journalist and defamation lawyer, he's not afraid of Warman) are politically connected intelligent individuals, serious men with financial means at their disposal. Thus far, he has only gone after Internet nobodies who could be easy caricatured as "dangerous Nazis." Now he's attacking Jews and Establishment journalists. I'm perplexed. I didn't think he would do something as dumb. It's called hubris, I believe.

Well, not on my watch. I’m not going to describe the details of my fight-back plan now, but I’ll explain it as we roll it out. Suffice it to say, Richard Warman and the CHRC are used to shooting fish in a barrel. That stops now. Btw, even in the early nineties Ezra Levant was for complete, unhindered free speech on all issues and against state-imposed censorship. He's not a late convert to this.
