U said 'piss'...how uncivil can you get? I've been doing a lot of outdoors work lately before the really shitty (ut oh...) summer weather arrives. Once it gets really cruddy (is 'crud' civil?) and I stink of sweat (getting iffy...) maybe I'll park in front of this screen and do some more cyber fighting and such.

This forum will be heavily moderated. We have some new moderators set up, and they will be charged with controlling things. This forum is for polite substantial debate only. No cursing or flaming. That will be enforced. In the rest of VNNF you can say whatever you want. In here you can argue whatever you want, but it must be strictly civil. In others words, what I originally said about the opposition forum, but this time I mean it. We are still having a couple problems setting up admin stuff, but we will enforce the rules in this particular forum. So, this forum is for people, antis or pros, to discuss the issues we deal with without insults or cursing. So run wild and free as usual in the rest, but here, pretend whatever you need to keep the thing formal and polite. This is a 'Sunday best' forum. It will be heavily moderated, and, if we can manage it, even have led or guided discussions.

We carved out this forum for special treatment because a few people asked for it. So let this forum take on a life of its own, and let it be civil, as the name says.

"Girlie-boys" - insult, not tolerated in VNNF-CF. Insults fine everywhere else. Civil ONLY in here. I and other mods will edit and censor, in here only. Rest you're free to use whatever form you think best, but this forum is censored. Go to the other forums to...complain about this if you don't like it, that's fine.
We're trying to do something a little different in this forum, make it politer. And see if something new and good can be made of it.

We talked about this awhile back I think in January or February, don’t remember the exact thread. Might have even been more than one thread, the idea has been floated a few times since the forum opened last December. Mebbe this little experiment will improve the forum, mebbe not I guess only tyme will tell. Should make things interesting though, a lot of worthwhile and interesting posters stay the hell away from VNNF on account of the wild, profane rantings of us unfettered White men who post regularly heer. Lets see how it plays MOMUS, it can always be shitcanned later, eh?

The civil forum is a free-speech forum. It is not a free-form forum. Now, of course form is part of content, but as a generalization, you can make any political point you want in the civil forum, we're just going to refrain from the personal insults, and have a decorous discussion.

Ever watch an old movie, 30s and 40s? Ever notice how people could say far more cutting things far more stylishly than we can today? That's what we're shooting for in here. Highest common denominator. Perhaps we can attract some high-quality new investigators that might be put off by other areas of the forum. Politeness is not an indication of weakness. Free speech as secured by Founders meant "fear no truths" political debate, not "Anal Sluts IV."

This is more of a Carey Grant forum; the others are more Jim Carrey. Both have their place. I love that "Pet Detective" movie.

Imagination, respect for others, thoughtfulness -- these are appropriate in this section of VNNF. Like an indoor refereed basketball game vs pickup game.

This board is a good idea, long overdue, and something I will follow with interest. I'm still glad I will be allowed to bash morons on other boards.

Modest suggestion: you might want to spell out as explicitly as possible what's allowed and not allowed, and post it as a sticky. Otherwise personal politics are bound to creep in. Check out other board rules; there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

No, that would be unacceptable in Civil. I won't post a list beyond what I've stated. You know what I'm looking for. If your post disappears, you'll know what it means.

There's a learning curve. We're still learning how to administer this forum and work out kinks. We've added some moderators. We're trying to make this place as good as possible.

No slurs. Let's see how it goes completely straight, whether good comes of it or not. Slurs in all the other forums, but not in Civil.
