Black Serial Killer Watts Convicted in 1970s Student Slaying

KALAMAZOO, Michigan: Jurors convicted a confessed serial killer of first-degree murder in the 1974 slaying of a 19-year-old Western Michigan University student. Coral Eugene Watts, who claims to have stabbed more than a dozen women to death but denied killing WMU student Glorida Steele, faces a mandatory life prison sentence after Friday's verdict. Steele was stabbed more than 30 times in the apartment she shared with her 3-year-old daughter in 1974. Watts, of Inkster, about 13 miles (21 kilometers) west-southwest of Detroit, already is serving a life sentence for the 1979 murder of Helen Dutcher in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. Watts, 53, received immunity for the 12 killings to which he has confessed, including 11 in Texas and one in Michigan, as part of a 1982 deal with Texas prosecutors.

But when you mention the name of Coral Eugene Watts, 99.99 percent of the public has no clue who you’re talking about," says Andy Kahan, who is hoping to change that. As director of the Crime Victims Office for the Mayor of Houston, he's trying to find some way - any way - to keep Watts from being released.

This is unbelievable! I looked over all the victims photos... where is the outrage over this? How is it even possible that he could get released? Something has got to be done to stop the black on white crime... until we meet violence with violence it is never going to end. :mad:

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Michigan prison officials say confessed Texas serial killer Coral Eugene Watts died Friday at a hospital of apparent prostate cancer.

Watts was 53.

Watts last week was sentenced to a second life prison sentence in the slaying a Western Michigan University student more than three decades ago.

Watts over the years had confessed to eleven killings in Texas and one in Michigan.

Michigan, Texas and Canadian authorities had suspected Watts in the slaying of dozens of women.
