Mark wants to get a shoutcast server / radio station of his own, and have an independent website/archive/forum/whatever.

Mark is frustrated with me because I told him that I wanted hold off and let us improve things at VNN (which is a comprehensive project, but Mark only sees the shoutcast angle). This is in addition to the host of other problems and inconsistencies with that idea (why reinvent the wheel when we have a built-in audience at VNN, two great guys who do archives, a pool of people who can host, a front page that gets 10K hits per week, donations that foot the bill for the server, etc . . ?

The reason Mark acts like I won't "let" him do these things is because he automatically assumes that the technical work isn't a problem because he'll just have me do it. Therefore, if I'm not for it, it doesn't allow him to just go do it. Did you catch that? He believes I have no right to have any reservations whatsoever at the the approximately 100 hrs all that would take. When I do, it's "go fuck yourself." That's why I'm done with him.

Gotcha. Thanks. Tough thing is that they're very nice fellows, and they're "one of us." It's not my decision what ISP we use, just as it is out of my hands if SC craps out, but I myself do try to appreciate Alex's experience w/ this whole thing. These wrinkles do need to all be ironed out, but at least VNN won't be abruptly kicked off the server without them even letting us have our own files, like last time. I'm also sure everyone feels better giving those hundreds of dollars to a company that doesn't flaunt a "diversity policy."

I'm not a tech guy. I'm a total Luddite when it comes to computers.

It is for a while, but then one gets burned out after being accused of being a fed for the hundredth time.

When I was defaulted into this position in April, I knew I would only be able to do things for a few months. With that in mind, I tried to address the most pressing issues, putting together solutions that were portable (if/when VNN moves again and I'm not around), simple enough to explain to non-techie Alex (so he could be tech-guy independent--very important to VNN), and would work without maintenance. When there was a job that necessitated human intervention (like archiving), I isolated the exact piece of work that someone had to do, coded everything around them to facilitate it, wrote instructions, and got two people to split the work for redundancy.

It may be the strawberry daqueri with little umbrellas talking, but this place was an utter wreck when I saw it for the first time, and much has been improved.

Does that T. Pennington feller actually do anything? I've not heard.
