has anyone watched PBS and the Ken Burns series on WWII? I've seen bits of it. I find interesting in parts. I've seen so much WWII stuff through the years, that a lot of it isn't new. There is a lot of depiction of the suffering GI's went through that is interesting, although I think I've heard enough about the Japanese-Americans being interned. It just seems they never shut up about it, and I just don't need anymore of it. I liked a contrasting story of a girl who was jewish, and her family was interred by the Japanese in Manila. Gives a real honest, crappy view of how the Japs treated us. Starvation, they would beat people, even children, if they didn't bow the right way. Also, when the series talks about europe, it justifies Dresden getting bombed, claiming it was an important troop and rail center. The Russians demanded it get iced. The program mentions 35,000 German dead. I think there were a lot more than that. Naturally, there's a lot of talk about blacks and how they were discriminated against, but it was softer than I thought. What strikes me is how it really was a white man's war. We're too multicultural now to ever be that united again. Also, It's really unconscious of me, but I just feel more for the Germans. Ever since I was a boy, I just took their side. I also think their suffering was a hundred times more than ours. Any opinions?

I can't stand to watch anything about World War II. It makes me too sad.

Destroying Dresden was Churchill's idea not Stalin's

LOL, funny how Burns uses possibly the only jew/amerikan in Manila at the time as an example of Japanese 'brutality' ...wonder when the law suits are gonna start being filed against the Japs by the thousands of 'traumatized' jews who will claim they were there or had relatives there when the Nip Empire took the Philippines in early 1942.

War is hell for everyone and the victors get to write the 'history' of what happened, true or not.

....We're too multicultural now to ever be that united again.
Sadly, yes I agree with you Steven.

Was there any mention of Roosevelts's shenanigans leading up to Pearl Harbor ?

Was there any mention of the millions of people who were slaughtered by the Commies as a result of the Allied victory? Morgenthau Plan?

Destroying Dresden was Churchill's idea not Stalin's
....planned and executed by that mentally unstable scumbag RAF Air Marshal Arthur Travers 'Bomber' Harris.

So typical that the mass murderer justifies his crimes by naming his victims 'unworthy of existence'.

For a number of years, the raid on Dresden was condemned as an unnecessary act. However, a recent publication has presented arguments that Dresden was indeed a legitimate target for the Allies and that the judgment of Harris was correct. In 1992, a statue to Harris was unveiled near Trafalgar Square in London. Within 24 hours, red paint was poured over it - such was/is the controversy the beliefs of Harris caused.LOL ...I'll bet ya this 'recent publication' is another slimey piece of revisionism attempting to justify the unnecessary deaths of 'evil' German civilians by some kike or cryptokike 'historian' ;)

Harris said at the start of the bombing campaign that he was unleashing on Germany, as portrayed in the 12th episode of the World at War, Whirlwind: "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind." In February 1945 Harris wrote "I do not personally regard the whole of the remaining cities of Germany as worth the bones of one British Grenadier." In his memoirs he writes "In spite of all that happened at Hamburg, bombing proved a relatively humane method".Harris never expressed any remorse for his actions during the war. Despite protests from Germany as well as some in Britain, the Bomber Harris Trust (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bomber_Harris_Trust&action=edit) (an RAF veterans organisation formed to defend the good name of their commander), erected a statue of him outside the RAF Church of St Clement Danes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Clement_Danes), London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London) in 1992 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992). It was unveiled by the Queen Mother (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Bowes-Lyon) who looked surprised when she was jeered by protesters. The line on the statue reads "The Nation owes them all an immense debt." The statue had to be guarded by policemen day and night for some time as it was frequently sprayed with graffiti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graffiti).

Except for the archival signifigance of some of the vet interviews, I found the whole thing to be what I would call "reverse-revisionism". Burns made it seem like WW2 was fought mostly by blacks, jews and japanese. In reality, these ethnic groups played bit parts in the American armed forces of WW2. No mention was made of Rosenveldts knowledge of the Pear Harbor attack. All in all it was pathetic, sappy drivel. Burns didnt even narrate this one, he chose some Louis Armstrong sound alike for obvious psychological reasons.

I agree with the above. of course nothing was said about Morganthau or any kind of allied dealing with Russia. Yalta got one cut of the camera. Also, I believe nothing was said about Katyn, where the Russians murdered 2,000 poles. It was full of footage that I had seen before. I think the series THE WORLD AT WAR was better, and gave both sides. Here, Burns deliberately settled on 'little people'. I also think the narrator was black, which I didn't like. As for the Phillippines and japanese POWs, there were ample shots of Americans suffering. Also, one GI was shown who was taken to Japan for the war. Ironically, he went to the Phillippines so he wouldn't be fighting a war in Germany. I was surprised the series got a lot of negative reviews from the liberal press, mostly over the blandness of Burn's style. Yes, the incidents leading up to Pearl harbor by FDR were glossed over. Like Gore Vidal put it, when the Japanese attacked us FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. A movie I liked was A MAP OF THE WORLD, which shows the attack on Dresden. It makes the Brits who planned it look like psychos. Certainly the British seemed to want to stamp the germans into the ground, the Americans being the willing hound dog going along. Yes, WWII saddens me. I think the further we go from it, it will be seen as the knife blow to the white race.

Any mention of Walter Duranty, NY Times covering up Stalin's crimes so America would fight on the same side as Stalin.

Of course not.

If I didn't know better, I'd think the poor discriminated against niggers and japs won WW-2 for Amerika. Ah, the wonders of die-vershity. What's really sad kids in school will buy into these lies and not ask a single question. Amerika's greatest generation my ass! Thank them for the destruction of the only nation that was founded on the principles of racial awareness.
