I asked this before - my post didn't show up - AM I THE ONLY ONE? On my three systems (win98se, win2k, winxp), the banner for the forums keeps changing every 2 or 3 seconds so that the screen JUMPS about 20 or 30 pixels and makes it maddening trying to read anything - doesn't anyone else experience this?????
Since it is on ALL THREE systems, I doubt it is my machine. I can save the website to my hard drive, and access it from there and the jumping STOPS. So, what gives here? I don't get this on any other websites, not even the main vnn website - JUST THE FORUMS.
Speak up, folks, unles I am really the ONLY ONE.

I am logged on to my win98se machine right now, and it uses IE 6 sp1. I'll check my other two machines later.
I noticed just now after watching it carefully exactly what is happening. At the top, inside the rounded rectancle and large letters VNN FORUM (wth the bird on the left), there is an area on the right where notices are posted and keep changing every few seconds. These noices are rotating between "Mark Faust"/VNNB/Special Broadcast.
This rotating notice area is what is causing the problem because the total space needed for the different text portions of the different messages causes the banner height to change as the notices change. That has to be some new programming change in the HTML for the forum webpages. If someone in charge of the webpage is reading this, check to see if you haven't made changes in this area recently (last few days), and see if you don't notice the effective banner height changing as the notice content changes. That causes the entire webpage to bounce up and down, even if you are browsing down below the banner area - it make it very irritating to try to actually read any content in the webpage as the line you are reading keeps jumping up and down.
Check it out.

i cant really replicate it, normally i use firefox and i dont have that problem at all, i just tried using my version of IE7 and it didnt do it either.
maybe it has something to do with IE6, or maybe even your font sizes might be larger which causes it to resize the page

Varg, do you see the NOTICE AREA (within the rectangular banner) changing - rotating over the current three messages? When it changes, does the text for the new message take up more, less, or the same, height? I tried using all possible fonts, which made no difference.
When I download the homepage to my harddrive (for general discussion or this just in), that notice area stays unchanged, and I do not get any jumping. How is the HTML coded to rotate that message area? It could be that it re-computes the text area for each message, and, then the total banner height has to be adjusted each time the notice changes (every few seconds).
If you get a changing notice area (like I do), and it never changes the banner height, then, I guess it has to do with the upgrade from IE6 to IE7. Shucks, every time I upgrade to a later msoft package, all hell breaks loose and things always go haywire - I have been hoping I wouldn't have to do that - no telling how many of my old programs won't work anymore if I go to ie7.

If you right click on your desktop, go to properties, then go to the Settings tab, then click advanced, for your DPI Setting, is it normal size or custom or large?

I changed it from large to small, as you implied, and, after rebooting the jumping went away and the changing messages stayed withing the banner height. Alas, I cannot read my PC screen with small fonts, and I can barely get by with large fonts (the only other choice is custom, which I haven't a clue about how to set up).
I am betting that whoever programmed this page utilized a microsoft feature for the changing message and msoft didn't bother to document that this feature would only work with small fonts. That is typical of msoft. Maybe I am the only one who uses large fonts, but, I doubt that - anyway, unless there is another way to get changing notices that allow for using large fonts, I'll just have to live with this irritation (at least I can read the letters).
One other thing, I see that my posts (including the prior one) got moved to a different thread - I don't have a problem with that except I wonder why they didn't send me a pm or something so I would know about it - I agree it belongs there, but, it would seem more polite to at least notify the thread originator when it gets moved to another forum - no?

I'm sure other people use big DPI font as well. I think i heard other people having the same issue as you, atleast we narrowed down what was causing it though, maybe we'll find a way to fix it.
I moved your thread to support , out of general discussion.
the forum has an option to have a 'redirect' which would have kept the original thread in general discussion but with "MOVED:" in front of it and the link would go here. I figured that would be good enough at warning you that it was moved, and is better than not warning at all. it must have expired before you saw it though, since I set it to only show the moved mirror on general discussion for an hour.
sending individual pms to each users thread we move would take too much time :) busy busy busy. if you think one of your threads has been deleted, just try looking to see if it was moved to a more appropriate subforum

Ya, you've got a non-standard setup on a non-supported browser, I'm afraid. I've got it inked in to have a look at this thing--was going to last weekend but then we had the live conference thing, plus mid-terms. Meh.
The short answer is this: Ger firefox. You won't be sorry, and it won't break any of your programs. If you want to stick w/ an IE-style browser, get Maxthon. But IE6 isn't even standards-compliant.
