...At least, we should be in the running and get an honorable mention. We can thereby perhaps generate a bit of internet
"trade press" for VNN.

Nigriwhat?
Nigritude Ultramarine did not appear on the web until last month, and now Google shows more than half a million hits. What happened? The answer is a competition among search engine optimisers and others to get their website to the top position on Google for that term. The first part of the competition (and an iPod) was won brilliantly by forums.merkey.net ahead of Philipp Lenssen's Google Blogoscoped. The Slayer prize of a flat screen monitor will go to whoever is top on July 7. And if you make it to Blogoscoped, look down the page for info on VisitorVille - website traffic displayed in a Sim City-style format.

If this is all it takes to coin a word, we racists should start giving away
$100 Wal Mart flat screen TV's in web contests.

Take a look at google as we enter the fray-

So far, it goes 77 google pages deep-

Responses on the web
The Nigritude meme last week kept spreading on the Web and had what I suspect to be its all-time high. This humble blog was covered on Slashdot twice, on Wired.com (including different languages other than English), and the English Guardian.

For the first time in this blog's life I realized what it means to be slashdotted – ten-thousand visitors from Slashdot within just some hours. (Good for me I have VisitorVille installed because I could immediately see what was happening on my server.)
But all in all, though I believe this month's interest (and interest for further competitions of this kind) will ultimately decline, I still get a steady hit flow from Google users who searched for "Nigritude Ultramarine" and briefly end up here.

If you click on the link above, you'll get to where you can click a very similar global image to see a short video (Quicktime format) of something Google displayed at the D Conference.
It's an animation showing the relative numbers of queries to the Google site in various parts of the world. Very cool, and revealing.

The Euros seem to be brighter than we are.
