Man Charged In Dismemberment Death Of Wife
Employer Reported Woman Missing
Authorities said Thursday that an Ashburn, Va., man killed his wife -- then partially dismembered her so she could fit into a suitcase, which was dumped in a trash bin.
Praveen Mandanapu, 32, of the 43000 block of Buckley Terrace in Ashburn, will be charged with the murder of Divya Mandanapu.
A maintenance worker found her remains Monday in a trash bin outside a condominium complex in the South Riding section of Loudoun County, Va. According to County Sheriff Stephen Simpson, portions of her arms and legs are still missing.
This apartment dumpster is part of the murder crime scene investigation.
Simpson said the couple is from India and had been in the United States for about five years. The wife was last seen at work in Leesburg on Friday, and her employer reported her missing when she failed to show up this week.
The couple moved into their Ashburn home last winter. A string of mango leaves hangs over the front door for good luck. Crime scene technicians searched the home for clues on Thursday.
"He is just as normal acting as any of us are," said Jay Stocks, an acquaintance of the suspect. "Very pleasant. I'm shocked. I'm really surprised."
Authorities said Mandanapu was arrested around midnight Wednesday in Winchester, which is west of Loudoun County. They also said they don't know what motivated the killing.
