Kimberly Loveless, who owns the Acorn Shop on Wayne Road, is resting in an area hospital.
“She’s going to be okay, but she’s pretty shaken up,” said. Lt. Jason Wright of the Wayne Police Department.
The incident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, he said. She had been about to lock up the store when an African American man about six foot tall forced his way through the door, according to Wright. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and had a black scarf covering his face.
“He forced her back into the store,” Wright said.
The suspect stabbed the victim several times, according to Wright, grabbed her purse and then fled on foot. He didn’t take anything else from the store.
Loveless was able to call 911, he said. She was transported to Oakwood Annapolis Hospital and later to the University of Michigan Hospital.
Wright said police called in an on-duty K-9 officer to aid in the search for the suspect.
