This is Kensington Afrikaner Fanie Basson, 66, attacked together with his wife Dixie, 77 -- by a four-member black armed gang on Saturday. The gang had broken down a window to get into their secured home. Dixie, described as small and frail, was tortured to death -- kicked and beaten with crowbars. He survived the torture-ordeal, but needed 33 stitches for a large number of stab wounds:

Dixie - described is a small, frail and kind-hearted woman by the family dominee -- pleaded with the black attackers to 'please leave her alone, just take what they wanted' - but they just kept on screaming at the couple, and beating her and and stabbing her husband ruthlessly -- 'until everything in the house just fell silent...' her husband told Beeld newspaper afterwards.
The only thing the gang robbed from their highly-secured home were two cheap watches, a cellphone and just a few rand.
Police Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the gang broke down a window to gain entry to the house.
The couple were tied up and gagged and left on their bed. That's when the beatings of Dixie started - who was repeatedly bashed with crowbars. Basson also was beaten and repeatedly stabbed with knives.
"They kept on screaming and cursing and demanding the whereabouts of the safe.
"I explained that we don't have a safe, and I heard them overturning things everywhere as they searched the entire house,' said Basson.
"Eventually it fell silent in the house and I rolled off the bed. I saw my wife lying on the mat, and I called to her, but she didn't answer. There was blood all over the room,' he said.
Mr Basson required 33 stitches at a local clinic for the stab wounds.
Their former preacher, dominee Gert Els, who now serves the NG Church in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (!) said the couple were gentle, wonderful people.
"Aunt Dixie was a tiny, frail little woman, why did they have to kill her, and so cruelly?" he told Beeld newspaper.
