Since our British comrades are commemorating the Battle of the Somme we Americans who still remember our history should give poise to remember all the slaughtered white men who died in Pennsylvania 141 years ago today. Let us also not forget the famed Irish brigade who fought there.

There is a review of Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels on the VNN main page under book reviews (duh). The book covers in detail the Battle of Gettysburg and Shaara places responsibility for the loss squarely on Lee's shoulders. Lee is believed to be at fault by many other historians as well. Gettysburg was the battle that broke the south's back and Lincoln made his stirring speech that basically marked the beginning of the end.

No shit Sherlock. I've never heard of that idea. Lee's Generalship lost him the battle? Man you are sharp as a tack. I was actually referring to another thread about the battle of Somme and the details of how 100,000's of white men lost there lives in a battle that had non-white interests much like the battle of Gettysburg(both battles began on the same day) and the Civil War in its entirety. Duh! I don't have time to read every book review or article on VNN nor do I have time to sit here and make 20 posts a day.

I don't think a victory of the Confederates would have made any difference.

Lincoln would have held the same pre-written speech promising freedom for the negroid slaves (in the Confederate States, not in the Union).

I have only recently started studying the 'American Civil War' or the 'War between the States' as some of you folks call it. I know the effects of that war , particularly the year 1861, on Britains white working classes in Lancashire. Many families, were brought almost to starvation and utter destitution because raw cotton couldn't get through the blockade .

Huh? You lost me in the first sentence. I was simply pointing out a popular book that recreates the battle. What the fuck are you jumping down my throat for?
