Ever wondered why spaghetti bought in stores is such a uniform length? This classic Hoax explains why.

That damned speghetti weevil! They thrive here in Texas and, as a result, every year my tree yields only a dab of shriveled vermicelli. In especially bad years we get nothing but a few handfuls of elbow macaroni.
My grandfather planted it and the blossoms are fragrant and pretty, so we haven't cut it down.

I vaguely remember this from many years ago, funny stuff. Do we even want to know the statistical numbers of dumbed down Kwans that would believe this....prolly not!!

There is actually a shorter, companion TV ad that relates to this piece. It aired about 1962-63 when I was a very small and impressionable child.
There were two or three lovely lasses dressed in plaid skirts, plain shirts and scarves tied in their hair. They were harvesting large bunches of spaghetti from the spaghetti trees while Italian music played in the background. A voice over announcer told us the women were picking their crop at its peak so it would be fresh from the fields to our table.
For years (at least until I was seven or eight), I thought spaghetti grew on trees. When I look back, I can only think that the marketing campaign did a great job targeting penniless children, at least for a while.
This is a great find. It was fun to see the basic, simple elegance of a time long past.
