I have also read versions of the alleged Gleiwitz Radio Station Story, which has all the attributes of a kosher red herring, for Germany needed no such excuse to attack Poland in 1939. When the Christian conmen came to NW Europe, they kept the pagan holidays (holy days), but added kosher labels & symbols, hence “Christmas” & “Easter.” The Yule Tree alias Christmas Tree is definitely pagan, but it survives. I’ve seen Yule trees in Spain, where there was no such tradition, as I have in Japan, where “Christmas” is deemed a commercial celebration in a non-Christian culture.
Voodoo is incorporated into Christianity in Latin America, as Santeria (Saintery) in which Voodoo loas or gods are deemed “saints,” just as pagan gods were in European Christianity. Brazil calls its Voodoo Christianity “Condumble,” if I recall correctly, but it is the popular religion, due to the heavy African admixture of its population. Santeria was introduced into Spanish-speaking Latin America by their Black slaves. Truly, demography is destiny.
What impressed me with Voodoo & its variations was its total lack of morality. There is no attempt to adhere to any virtues, values or codes of behavior. If you want someone to die, you just pay a witchdoctor or wizard sufficient for the job. In Africa, a Black who even thinks someone has put a hex on him usually dies, & he will take murderous action against anyone he suspects of putting a hex on him. You can pray for a successful bank robbery, for example. In Mexico, there is even a “narco-santo” or narcotic saint, named Jesus Malverde, which translates as “Jesus Badgreen.” Bandits & drug dealers pray to him to bless their businesses. Apparently, the Catholic Church keeps its mouth shut, since it likely receives money from the narco-saint’s supporters. A recent radio report on drug-smuggling from Colombia via Central America revealed how a church in a drug port had prospered. Is the priest concerned? Well, “It’s an ill wind which blows no good,” & he can “better provide for the religious needs of his community.” I suppose the priest distinguishes “religious” from moral & spiritual needs. Jefferson wrote that a Christian must either be a fool or a fraud. Strength through Joy. ORION!
