According to Jerry Marcrum, Terry Marcrum recounted for relatives how he was on his route Monday afternoon and had opened his car trunk to get the mail ready for his next group of deliveries.

He saw a young man leaning against a telephone pole.

Terry Marcrum said, "Hi, how are you doin'?"

"But the guy didn't say a word," Jerry Marcrum Sr. said his brother told him. The young man pulled a gun, what Terry Marcrum thought to be "a nickel-plated pistol."

Terry Marcrum turned away, and the first shot hit him in the head, around where a man would part his hair. He turned his body again and was hit in the shoulder.

Then, Terry Marcrum fell to the ground -- but the shooter wasn't finished, relatives say.
"He was standing right over and fired again, but he was either a bad shot or my uncle rolled out of the way," Jerry Marcrum Jr. said. "He missed."

Let's see, he wasn't robbed, it wasn't personal, it wasn't gang related. I guess he just couldn't control his hatred of postmen, just like some dogs.
